Originally posted in the amps category, but there is nobody there and I need some quick answers. Plus, so many people here have so much knowledge.

I recently had this crappy little amp I got for free blow out in the middle of playing. I'm thinking of looking into a brand new Frontman 25r. I don't need anything too fancy and this seems like it can get the job done really well. Are these worth the average $100 pricetag on eBay?

I live in VA. The drive would cost more than the amp itself. I found one for $99 with free shipping.

I have 2 FM25´s that I hook up to a stereo reverb, to perform on classical guitar actually.
When I plugged a Strat into the FM25 at the store, and then they told me how much it cost, I said, -give me two!
On electric, I stack them up and it´s really cool. One clean, the other a bit crunched.
Great bang for the buck and loud enough to rehearse with a drummer.
For the stage, it´s a bit small.
Overall, I doubt any 10¨driver amp can beat the FM25.

I posted it more for reference than to suggest you drive here! :D

I wouldn't spend 5 bucks for a Frontman amp. They are horribly unreliable and if you read through the amp forum a little bit, you'll find several posts about FM amps suddenly going silent, never to work again. For your $100, I think you can find something of MUCH better build quality that will last you significantly longer, even if you have to go with something used.

I don't have much money to work with. My other amp (a crappier Frontman I think) was pretty battered. The guy who gave it to me said it was 8 years old and he played on it almost daily. I played on it almost daily and it was just fine.

For your money, I think the the Peavey Rage is a better quality amp than the FM25. If you do end up going with the FM amp I do wish you luck but I personally have had one crap out on me, as well as a friend of mine, neither was abused or used for anything but guitar. And after reading so much about the same issues online it seems the problems are pretty common. SO good luck with it if you get one.

I'll be sure to look into it. I've heard a ton of bad things about Peavey though.

Eh. Doesn't look too special. Doesn't have anything more than the current amp that blew out.

Hmmm...I've never had anything but good luck with Peavey, but all the Peavey amps I owned/own are 80's models. I had a Basic 60 that worked great and was built like a tank; A Renown 400, at 400 watts rms, that was by far the loudest combo amp I've ever had, and HEAVY  ; and I still have a Bandit 65 which is my favorite SS amp I've had. Just be careful with the FM amps and if you buy from somewhere that offers an extended warranty or repair/replacement program take advantage of it, may save you a good bit of cash in the long run.

I'm not stupid. The first time I got burned for a bad guitar the seller payed heavily. But I have some heavy equipment too. I have an archaic KMD and a Crate head that's just as old. Both are over 20 and are still pretty good. And loud as hell.

Meh. I like to play around with the amp itself, rather than download a new tone.
