What would your player signature guitar be?

I'd pick a Strat.

It would be all stock, but with a really chunky, maple cap neck and an affordable price tag, so everybody can enjoy it.

Mine would be a Fender 68 Telecaster Bass USA Reissue in Blonde. It would have absolutely NOTHING that wasn't on a 68 stock Telecaster and EVERYTHING that was. Except for that crappy pickguard material that made your screws rust.

Fender Blonde, the way they came stock. You could order a custom color, but it cost extra.

You sure? I seem to remember playing a 60s Tele with a maple capped neck.

Hi DHD: my 2008 Lite Ash Tele has a birdseye maple neck with a separate birdseye fingerboard (cap).

And to the OP: slightly to my own surprise I think my ideal Sig Fender is getting ever closer to a '57 spec Strat. Couple of small refinements but that would be essentially it.

In fact, take a look at the maple 'board Eric Johnson Sig to see pretty much what a Ceri Strat would be like. I don't think it gets a lot better than that.

Cheers - C

Actually, it does exist; there have been both factory/OEM necks and aftermarket units as well.
I don't know what the advantage would be, unless someone really hated skunk stripes. Perhaps the old "a laminate is stronger than a solid piece" theory/argument. I don't know enough about woodworking to intelligently argue either side of that issue.

EDIT: Oops, I just saw Ceri's post, above mine... (read before you post, SA!) :?

They do. I came across one earlier this year. I also almost had one for my Tele project, but the guy never shipped it. It was an early 80's Japan neck. Well worn, but still plenty of space for my mojo to be ground in.
