Then who would play Grandpa Jones? Don't forget Buck Owens, and his side kick lead guitar. And there's Roy Clark and Lu-Lu. oh yea Junior and I think it was Buck Owen's Daughter that kept getting spanked by the fence board, remember.     That was a fun show, a little Corney but good comedy. 8) And a lot of good (MUSIC). I'm with you friend, bring them back.

I don't remember ever seeing Kirschner's show when it was on. But every possible week I'd catch the Midnight Special, usually in the basement on the black/white tv since the folks were "not gonna watch those long haired hippies making that noise!"

Now Hee Haw, almost every Sat night we ate dinner in the living room so they (parents) wouldn't miss a moment of that show. I remember I sure liked the girls on there though

In spring '86 when working in Nashville through college we spent two nights working at the Opry, that was where I met Roy Clark. Ran into him quite literally as I was hauling some cables around in the afternoon. He was surprised I knew who he was since I had a KISS shirt on. I told him about our faithful viewing from WI. He thought that was pretty funny and showed me some of the sets for the show, the cornfield, Grandpa's porch, the barn set for the "picking and grinning" segments....it was pretty surreal to see.

Haven't thought of that show or a black and white TV in a long time! 8)

I'd sign that. Hee Haw is one of the longest running syndicated music programs! Others include Soul Train which ran 35 seasons eclipsing Hee Haw's 20 years of first run syndication hours after Hee Haw was dumped by CBS after only a 2 year run from 1969 till 1971. It got the CBS axe not because of ratings but because CBS was still trying to shake the hayseed image from all those rural comedies they had also cancelled. Former CBS affiliates jumped at carrying it.

Fewer Hee-Haw lead vocals were lip-synched than were live. Many were either the original instrumental/bg vocal track or an instrumental track especially recorded for the show with the lead vocal performed live into an EV-635 that actually sounded amazingly good for an EV-635. I chalked up the good sound to good processing, engineers and skilled performers. So basically you were more often seeing what was more or less a Karaoke type vocal performance. The 635 would probably be the last choice today for a lead vocal mic for a television music shoot and there were certainly better mics for PA use at the time, but for some reason Hee Haw used them all the time and usually, for the lead vocals at least, they were actually turned on!

I always chuckled at Dick Clark's American Bandstand EV 635's with what was obviously a transistor radio antenna inserted into the XLR connector where the cable should be. Now ALL of those were lip-synched absolutely and positively for sure! I don't know whose idea the transistor radio antennas were, but they should get some sort of "Goofy Idea of the 70's" Award.

If Taylor Swift does go on your Hee-Haw revival, PLEASE make sure she lip-synchs! (Live she sings so many different pitches one of them is bound to be right!)

I used to love the segment of the show where Buck Owens and Roy Clark would sing "Where oh Where are you tonight".I'm an Ol'time country music fan through and through, forget that Taylor Swift Shania Twian garbage and bring on Maybelle Carter et. al.BTW today in the mail I received my 14 episode DVD of Petticoat Junction-another country themed classic that should be brought back to the airwaves along with Green Acres.

Actually at that time I was still a drummer, no bass or guitar yet. It was just meeting such a "star" more than anything. And he was so "down to earth." I literally ran around a corner and bashed into him, I said "excuse me, woah you're Roy Clark" or something to that affect. He just laughed and said "that's ok, judging by your shirt I'm surprised you even know who I am." It was such an easy conversation, no star power.

Back then in Nashville, country music was everywhere you turned,on Saturday there was always country music tv shows like Porter Waggoner's show where a young Dolly Parton first showed up,lower Broad was full of honky tonks that had music blaring out into the streets..back then it was a seedier area, now it's a tourist attraction.
I remember being kind of embarrassed when Hee Haw first aired,I thought it just made fun of us in Music City...even though where I lived there were guys who made a living playing country music and being on Hee haw...lots of us younger people wanted to be hippies...having long hair at the time here would get you a free butt kicking.....and a haircut.
It was just a different time here in the South...a mixture of changing times and values...looking back on it,Hee Haw represented a simpler time that had already gone.

Reminds me of when my dad told me about when he met Layne Stayley.
