Hi, I am thinking about upgrading to Custom Shop pick ups. Which ones are closest in tone to the originals that I have in my 07 American SSS Strat and is it worth the effort? Thanks

Hi itsely,

If you want the same tone, no need to change pups, no point. If you want a different tone, what would it be? Warm, fat, bright, 50s, 60s? So many choices!

Maybe you have a favorite artist that you want to sound like? I think that some "Texas Specials" (TS) from the Custom Shop (CS), would give you a great sound that will work for just about any style from blues to rock to jazz, without a huge difference from the sound of your originals. Really nice pups. Probably the best bang-for-buck pups out there are "Tex-Mex" (TM) pickups (not CS), which are similar to the TS but a little hotter, and the TM are about half the price of TS. Both the TS and TM will give you more of a "vintage" sounding Strat. These two pups are some of my favorites, both are excellent.

Hi Shim.
I wonder, how would you characterize the CS 60´s pickups as compared to the pickups in an American Standard Strat?
I am new to learning about pickups, it all seems very intricate.

Sorry mike07502, I have not heard any of the CS '60s that I know of, so I really don't know. You are right though, the differences between pups can sometimes be subtle. And the stock pups in the Am Std have changed through the years.
