My friend and I have been close since 5th grade. He recently moved to NV, so I was thinking that we could meet up and do a senior year road trip to the Leo Fender center in Corona. We both play Fenders and love them, so this is sort of like our Hajj to Mecca. But we could do other things like stop at rest stops and play for the travelers and maybe make a bit of money off of it (if they like us). Just sort of an idea I got.

Do your parents know about your plans? probably a good idea to fill them in on the details first. Happy Travels. 8)

Well, I'll be 18 and using my own money. Flights there and back are a total of around $600. My dad is putting together a gift money fund for me and hopes to have a few thousand. Plus my friend's money.

I'm working on it. Just want to get every detail good. I have a small Fender practice amp a neighbor gave to me, so I might take that.

Sounds awesome. Hope you have fun.

I agree with Danny Duke. Leave a travel plan with someone you know, parents especially. Remember 127 hours... that guy didn't give anyone his travel plan and he almost died... almost :? err... but he did lose an arm and how are you going to play the guitar with one hand ehh. :) (trying to add humor to glum situation)

When I was interrailing (Eurorailing) I called my parents every couple of days just to let them know that I wasn't in any trouble that I couldn't get myself out of, and I also called my mom just after a evacuation in Notre Dame, Paris, after a bomb threat, just so she wouldn't panic seeing it on the news.

But yeah let someone know about your travel plans so they know where to look if something should happen (knock on wood). But remember the most important thing is to have fun 8)

That's not a "road trip", kid.

You should have read. I'm going to fly to Reno and meet up with a friend. From there, we're going to Corona, stopping at as many places as we can.

In that scenario, make your first stop at Bizarre Guitars in Reno. They often have some tasty stuff available for those who can afford it. Be prepared for delays on I-80 just west of the state line if you chose that route. US50 is also a possibility but you'd better be comfortable with mountain driving. Make your next stop at Skip's Music in Sacramento -- they usually have a nice selection of Fenders. I-5 will get you to SoCal quicker but US99 is the more picturesque route (beware the CHP in and around Modesto). You might also take I-80 out to the bay area then head south on either US101 or the PCH. The latter is a blast in a Corvette or other sportscar. Have a ball.

We also want to stop at rest stops and play for like an hour or so to see if people will buy us lunch at Sbarro or give us cash or something. Be kinda cool.

Inadvisable. To the extreme.

I hear what you want to do, Buxom, but do be VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY careful! Some of the rest stops are the most dangerous places on the road.
