Danny, thank you for posting this. I'm working on her house and I had no idea she was such a fine guitarist. I just remembered her hyper acts from Ed Sullivan and Johnny Carson. This is quality stuff.

Charo is actually an excellent, perhaps world-class, flamenco guitarist who reportedly studied for seven years under Andres Segovia. It was her first claim to fame, long before she started doing the 'cootchie-cootchie' on the Love Boat!

+1 Charo's amazing. I saw her play on TV in the early 70's and was totally blown away. Ages ago it was easier for a woman to be the "dumb blonde" than a World Class Flamenco Guitarist. It's even hard for women today unless they're pretty. It's a shame. I always couldn't wait for Charo's silly interview's to be done and see her pick up her guitar.

I know better and see talent way before looks. Always have.

Yes, great guitar player. And I think she is also the long lost sister of the Marx brothers.

Chico, Harpo, Groucho, Gummo, Zeppo.....and Charo. :)

Actually she learned at a school Segovia started for underprivileged children.

Although Segovia studied flamenco, he didn't really like it later on--and in Christopher Parkening's auto biography, Grace Like a River--he tells of Segovia admonishing him for playing flamenco. Somewhere along the way Segovia grew to dislike flamenco.
