I am looking into getting a refret on my highway one rosewood neck and was wondering what a current fair price is? I have had it dressed several times and I have warn the frets really shallow so it has become hard to bend. I also have grooves in the first 5 frets that drive me crazy. I know I could probably buy a new neck for it but I love the feel and I have bonded with it really well since 2003. so any info or recommendations on where to have it done I would appreciate it. I can do the setup so an online thing where I mail the neck off will be fine

Check out http://www.bluefrets.com/services .

But if you only need like the first 6 frets replaced, you might could find someone local for that at about 5 to 10 dollars per fret. BUT it is better to do a total refret so that they are all nice and new and level. The main thing is you want someone highly experienced in refretting that uses top quality fret material. This is pretty labor intensive, so the bulk of the charge is labor.

Since you're in Texas, this might not mean much, but as a point of refernce, I met a luthier today to discuss a fret job. He charges $275 if no binding, $300 w/ binding. He says he does a light leveling of the fret board.

That sounds about right. It would be 200 minimum for a total fret job and cleaning, leveling, etc.

That's pretty consistent with what such a service would cost out here in Arizona as well.

$350 in the San Francisco Bay Area.........but it's also more expensive for just about anything out here.
