I've never been to California. Looks like now I've got a very good reason. Straight in on my "to do" list. 8)

Thanks for the heads-up.

I don't mind backplates its just the screws. They should have Velcro backplates for the guitars. Stick the velcro to the guitar outside the springs where the backplate goes and then put velcro on the back plate and you can rip it off so then we can change the springs

I will go there and build a custom Buddy Holly strat in tribute to him. a rock version of it. HSH config and DiMarzio humbuckers and a fender Hot Noiseless in the middle. Reverse wound too. it will have coil tap and also Buddy's signature on the headstock on the back. and in the case candy a picture of buddy and his strap and authentic strings that he used. And i will route the body HHH so if anyone wants a third humbucker in it you can put it in it. and it will be the ultra buddy holly strat with coil tap and humbuckers but his was stock so i'm creating a rock version of it. To use in a Buddy Holly style manner

Hello FenderGuy and freddyfingers: a few years ago Jaguar Cars commissioned about 30 Strats from the Custom Shop to give to their executives in case their enormous paypackets were somehow not enough for them. A few of those guitars later found their way onto the market and if I'm not very much mistaken (I'm not) one is owned by our own fellow Forum user AlaindeFrance.

Anyhow, as you see from the photo, the guitars were done out with many Jaguar accoutrements, including that walnut pickguard, echoing the walnut used on Jaguar dashboards. They didn't want to spoil the lines with screw heads so I seem to recall the pickguard is secured in place with tiny magnets placed around its edges instead of the screws. A neat arrangement, because it means you can just lift the pickguard off anytime you want; and I presume the backplate works the same way.

Here it is (despite the photo the body is in fact Jaguar Racing Green):

Nice, huh? Something to think about for your Custom Shop visit (though I very much doubt they'd do this sort of thing without A LOT of cash changing hands).

Cheers - C

That is aweswome thanks ceri!!! That's what I must know now, the cost of things first over there but i know whatever i can make will be a keeper. Why not just rout the body with a swimming pool rout instead of 3 humbuckers.I've done a fair amount of woodworking to know one straight cut is easier than 3.But this magnet idea would be great.I'm still in love with the fender idea in 83 though.I don't use an whammy to often so even if they were as bad detuning strings as people say that is not a concern to be but to have a smooth backthat doesnt rub against my belt would be priceless. So just to tell you in case you havent figured it out i keep my guitar higher than most and that backplate is a pain or shall i say the springs are.Good thread guys though.Although i did start a thread about what fender players would make themselves if they were visiting the corona center. It's an empty thread.Well, I cannot make any plans to go there until febuary and know if I still have a job.Take care all!
