Hi Elix1r, absolute miriad of choices in the acoustic world, was looking at some a while back, never did get one though just a gas attack fought off, tried plenty though and the Martin for me was an ok player ( one of the cheaper models) stood out a mile tonewise though when I was in front of someone else playing the few I was looking at, best of luck in your hunt

Do what I did. Set a budget, play as many different types/brands as you can lay your hands on within that budget. Spend a lot of time with each, play with eyes closed, go home, then go back and do it again, and again. The right one will pick you, it will feel right and sound right. I know that sounds cliche, but I spent 3 months doing just that and I found "the one" for me. I think this is more important to get right on acoustics than electrics for "the sound", because with electrics, feel and aesthetics seems to be the priority, as the sound can be seasoned to taste after the fact.

Enjoy the search and good luck!

+1 Great advice. That's what I usually do. Do your homework. I was originally looking at a Epiphone Masterbuilt, and came home with a Martin. I set a budget with a maximum amount I felt like spending and came home with a Martin Performing Artist Series. Mu only per-requisite was it had to be a solid wood top, back, sides and neck. I tried Taylor, which played nice but was too bright for me, The Epi was a total disappointment in both build quality, sound, setup and playability, Breedlove which was nice but for solid tone woods was out of my budget, Parkwood and Guild. I kept going back to the Martin. It just picked ME. You'll know. Don't worry about how much bling is on the guitar and how shiny it is. Go for tone and playability.

I picked up a couple of Ovations off E-bay a few months ago - Both Acoustic/Elec.

One is the Balladeer which is o.k. - The other is the Ultra 2271 which is simply amazing and for $370 shipped was a true bargan.

on the right track with a Martin by all means pick several Martins that you like and play them then choose the one that you like most and let us know (pic's) :D

Hi forum!

Im selling my Simon And Patrick acoustic guitar. ( Can be found at viewtopic.php?f=2&t=59493 ). And i am buying a new one. I wont give a reason because that isnt important. :)

Any tips on a acoustic guitar? Brand or model? The money is not much of a problem at this point.

Im thinking of a Martin right now.

Any help is appreciated. :)

I played tens of different Acoustic's when i bought mine....From 400 Taka's to 4000 Martins....

I ended up settling for a base model Martin DX15 i think.....Just gourgous.... It outclassed every thing by miles in rounded sound it just sounded rounder in all frequencies than others....Your on the right track....But hey a lot of players a lot better than me like that trebley style of Acoustics which i find most to be when compared to Martin, I dont i like em so when you dig in they are mid and bass biased. I dont think anyone quite pulls it off like Martin. Takamine do a great Martin impression also for the 500-700 Bracket....

I was playing a Washburn today that was suprising. Takamine and Ibanez have some very interesting models as well. Shame the Gibson Songwriters aren't as easy to find anymore.

Cheers,

Obviously you won't go wrong with the Martin choice. But if you fancy trying something a little different, try out one of the Tramontaine range by the French company Lag.

I bought mine after just 30 seconds with it.
