Find out if they have an amp like yours. They really should have a cable. But do take your own pick and tuner. And capo if you want one

band-aids for your fingers  GC usually has nasty rusty old strings on everything  also most if not all of the guitars there lack a good setup  last time I went there they had an American closet classic strat with old rusty strings that felt like a cheap Chinese knockoff

Bring your own amp if you can. I didn't last week because it wasn't a planned purchase, it just happened, but it worked out really well for me. But normally if I'm on a mission, I'll bring my #1 amp.

Take your amp so you can hear the guitar through your setup. A tuner and a few picks are also a good idea, however the accessories dept. will probably have a tuner you could borrow. I'd still take my own though, less hassle. As soon as you walk in with your amp in and and say you want to check out some guitars I guarantee one of the guitar salesmen will be there to assist with anything you need that might aid in padding his commission check for the month.

My general principal's. If you have a complected setup (More than an acoustic) and you are looking for a specific sound, feel, etc. You need to have as close a setup as possible to what you are going to use most of the time for your playing.

If you can bring you favorite pick, tuner, Capo, cable, etc. anything to reduce the variables that can effect the goal bring them. Amp if it isn't a back breaker and find a room close to where you play and bring all the gear in there.

Equivalency will help to reduce variables and guessing.

I do this with critical items where possible. I play for myself so I am not so careful in this area.
I usually impulse buy on a GAS attacks! LOL. That's why I like good return programs.

Half a bottle of Vodka was my requisite to go in and check out some gear.
I don´t drink anymore.
The guys at the shop regret it because I mysteriously stopped purchasing impulsively.
No wonder. One day I walked out with an upright bass. The guys helped me get it unto my truck, as I was completely hammered.
The wife was not pleased.

I never take anything but my Gear Card and a smile. GC has half a dozen (or more) of the same amps I've got. I never have any trouble getting a pick. Half the new amps have built-in tuners. I browse guitars like I browse books - one at a time until I find the one I'm after. Of course, I am one sick puppy, for sure.

All GC's I've been to, have a fish bowl full of pics near the register.
Tuner's shouldn't be an issue as well as cables.
Unless you have a tricked out amp or a custom one, I'd call to make sure they have a similar model to one you have. If not, bring yours.

Well i mean ive tried out acoustics and I got my last guitar from a local store, which has everything within their fairly small area already designated for testing out stuff, but unfortunatly they only have Squiers, Washburns, Jacksons, and Deans, which is not what im looking for. Ive only purchased an amp, strings, picks, and a case from GC, and plus idk its just intimidating at GC, idk i always get a dick vibe from the employees.

I loaded up my digital recorder with songs I wanted to play with. Took earphones. Plugged ax into recorder with GC cable. Played axes through recorder so I could hear the differences between the instruments through the identical set up, not influenced by cool amps I can't afford. :D

If you're going to play through a modeling amp, earphones is not a bad idea. When it's busy it can be impossible to hear what you want through the wave of noise being generated around you. If you can arrange it, a weekday morning is better than a weekend.

I always keep a couple picks in my wallet. Better to always be prepared.
No need for a cable. A tuner might be helpful but usually they will be at least close and you can tune it from there.
