A book came out a year or two ago called "Jimi Hendrix Gear". Might be what you're looking for.

Read it backwards Riley... :D

Most of his first album was recorded with a Strat and Fender amps...most likely a Twin Reverb, since he had used a twin here....listen to the "Wind Cries Mary"...sounds like a twin to me.
He went to England with Chas Chandler to record "Are You Experienced" with only one piece of music gear,a white Fender Stratocaster.... :D

Not a simple question to answer. He used many guitars in his life. Early in his career he pretty much used whatever was lying around... he slowly began to form a sound and then began to purchase Stratocasters... they were not cheap back in the day.

Toward the end of his career he seemed to favor the large headstock Stratocasters.

You also require enough amplifiers to tear your head off. Set the treble until it feels like your head will pop.

Ive heard of people stuffing tissues into their ears at Hendrix concerts.

Here is a rare one for you all... he even used a white Fender Jazzmaster.... hmmm exactly the same as the one I own.....

Just a fun relation: the guy next to him has a Guild electric, Guild is also known for their higher end acoustic guitars, the sole guitar used by Ritchie Havens, who opened up Woodstock Music and Arts Fest in 69, Freedom being one of the most memorable performances, also on the bill the final day was Jimi Hendrix, who played what is said to played his greatest performance and one that summed up the 60s, also Hendrix used a Guild Acoustic on various performances including the rare acoustic of "Hear My Train A Comin" from the Jimi Hendrix film.

yeah i did when i first posted, in fact when i first read it i knew it was fender stratocaster backwards, i aint that dumb  . its just that his sarcasm and the fact he added the roll emoticon immply that he meant it in a harmfull way, and also i assume he was immplying that fenderguy1 was stupid for asking that question.

The 'guy' next to Jimi is the late great Cornell Dupree http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Loy55z4GpA, were is Dupree with King Curtis.

Jimi mainly used Strats, but also played a Flying V, a Les Paul, SG, etc, etc. Also many types of guitar amps, mainly Marshalls live, but I've seen pics of him with Sunn, and Fender Showman amps.

SRV amp tech Cesar Diaz, wrote that SRV's tone came from him trying to sound like Jimi.

Hendrix is flat out known for His Fender Stratocaster with gauge .010, .013, .015, .026, .032 and .038 Fender Strings (also used Ernie Ball Reg's and Super Slinkys while in England and multiple times in the US) into a Vox Wah, a Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face, and a Roger Mayer Ocatvia (he later picked up the Uni Vibe around 69) into a Marshall Super Lead Amp and Reg. Marshall Cabinets, 100 watts. He used a Sears Silvertone, an Epiphone Wilshire, a Fender Jazzmaster, a Fender Duo Sonic, and then he purchased a CBS era Strat, and it became his mainstay, mostly black, white, and occasionally fiesta red with rosewood necks until '69 when he fell in love with maple necks, and colors varied from black and white to Lake Placid Blues to some wierd Silverish color. But he purchased an experimented with everything. In the studio for Hey Joe and Purple Haze he used a Telecaster; Henry Goldrich of Manny's recalls selling him everything from a Gibson ES-330, to a Gibson Firebird, to a Mosrite electric resonator guitar. His other guitars included a Guild 12-string acoustic, an Acoustic Black Widow Spider, a double-neck Mosrite, a Hagstrom 8-string bass (played on "Spanish Castle Magic" from Axis: Bold as Love), various Rickenbackers (a bass, a 6-string, and a 12-string), a '67 Gretsch Corvette, a left-handed Guild Starfire Deluxe fitted with a Bigsby tremolo, a '67 Gibson Flying V, a '55 Gibson Les Paul, a '68 Gibson SG Custom, a black, left-handed Flying V, a Gibson Dove acoustic, a Martin acoustic, and a Hofner electric. Modifications to his instruments were minimal, and his frets were rarely reworked because the guitars didn't last long enough to become worn.

Picks and straps were mostly whatever matched his clothing, but the picks were mostly D' Andrea Celluloid or Fender

I hadn't seen that pic of Gerry Stickles and Eric Barrett-Jimi's Road manager and equipment manager respectively-before,even though I'd heard Eric and Gerry relate how the used to hold the amps while Jimi raped them.Jimi used everything from Strats to Les Pauls to S.G. to Epiphones for building up the layers of his electronic symphonies.BTW in the Jimi Hendrix Movie with his solo acoustic version of Hear My Train A Comin' he in fact used a rare one off Zematis right hand 12 string that was strung for left especially so Jimi could record that version and definitely wasn't a Guild. If you look closely at the footage you can clearly see the large Z- Zematis logo.I have the original vinyl album that was taken from the movie and in the still picture on the cover you can very cleary see the large scroll Z.

Woah, just noticed that, thanks for the correction, it just looked like a Guild style logo to me from this pick: http://thehelplessdancer.files.wordpres ... endrix.jpg

Hendrix also used Telecasters.

He played the solo of Purple Haze on a Tele 8)
