Nothing like a little Muddy to start your day, but would have chosen Mannish Boy...now that is a Vocal :!: :!: :!:

One of the best highlights of my musical life was that I had the chance to sit and talk with Muddy Waters twice in '81, once for a few minutes in Feb of '81 and later in Dec '81 both at Gilly's.

The first time as I wrote, was just a few minutes back stage this was a weeknight show. The second time was a Saturday show in Dec, & this time I took my 10yr son.

We sat in the back of Gilly's, mainly because of the smoke & I wasn't sure how loud the band would be, although he had been to quite a few shows when I was in 'BLACKMALE'.

As usual, the band played a couple of songs before Muddy came out, as they started the second song. Muddy saw us and came over and sat at our table! He remembered me from the first show. He asked me if the young boy was my son, and I told him 'yes', and that I wanted him to see the 'King of the Blues'.

Muddy leaned back & chuckled, he remarked that B.B. King thought he was the 'king'. He asked my son if he liked the blues, he told Muddy that he did, but KISS was his favorite band. Muddy laughed again.

He asked my son his name, "Billy", and later as Muddy was on the stage he dedicated 'Mannish Boy' to "Billy Boy", sitting back there with his dad. This was the one time I wished that I had taken a camera.

This is really Muddy at his best, and where the Stones got their name http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_vsvX2qiLM&feature=related.

This clip, and many more concert clips are on the DVD 'Muddy Waters: Classic Concerts' http://www.amazon.com/Muddy-Waters-Classic-Concerts/dp/B000BM7U82/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1316047434&sr=1-1.

Ehhh its better that way, it makes it seem more surreal. Great story

Mannish Boy without a doubt is my favourite Muddy song,it just drips of raw sexual undertones,it's another song that I could put on repeat and leave on playing for hours. My favourite version is the one off "Hard Again" with Pinetop Perkins and Johnny Winter.
