Mom & pop stores are usually better when it comes to having guitars on the wall properly set up. there's usually less of them come in. haha they get more tender loving care.... 8)

While we are on this subject I'd also like to say, one of the things that really bothers me is when someone gives a young person his first guitar in hopes he will learn to play, no one ever checks to see if the guitar is really playable before giving it to the kid. So many of the less expensive guitars and some of the better ones are sold with strings that are rusty and dirty, the action about a mile high and would be difficult for even an experienced player to use. When this happens, in spite of the givers good intentions the young player gets discouraged and soon gives it up. Some don't even know that strings need changed often and how weather and temp changes affect the guitar. A kid that's armed with this knowledge is much more likely to stick it out. :)

There's nothing wrong with the guitar and nothing for Fender to "fix."

If you read his first post, you'll see that he bought the guitar without having played it, the shop didn't set it up at all, and when he got home with it he realized it just doesn't work like it should. I think this shop should take more care and do a proper set-up or at least ask if the customer wants it done.

Cheers

David

There's a high-end guitar shop in McKinney, Texas (they keep axes like Fender CS, Turners (Lindsey Buckingham's favorites), Collins, high-end boutique amps, etc., in stock) that has a sign I found brilliant:

"ALL UNATTENDED CHILDREN WILL BE GIVEN AN EXPRESSO AND A PUPPY BEFORE BEONG RETURNED TO THEIR PARENTS."

+1

Adjusting the guitar a little for the purchaser for free would be a wise move for any shop. But let's not get carried away and start bashing QC at Fender, or dictate how any guitar should come "setup" from the factory, or that having it setup for every particular user is somehow a "fix" that anyone is responsible for. Impossible to setup a guitar one way that fits every user and every environment. We don't know the conditions of the shop, or at the OPs house, or his playing style.

Bingo! Very cool shop, very cool guys...now if my income would go up about 33%, I could maybe shop there! :(
They let me play whatever I wanted, due to the fact that I took off my belt before asking to take one off the wall...
They also had a "down to earth" section of more affordable stuff in the back.
