Hello everyone,

I just recently got the Fender Mustang II amp and have been trying to do some recording with it via the USB port using the Live 8 program that came with it. The problem I am having is that after about 10 minutes of hearing/playing my guitar (with distortion), I start to hear what I can only describe as pulsing/clicking sound that reverberates everytime I pluck a string. I have done some searching on the net to try and solve this problem and the advice seems to be to turn down the input levels, as the pulsing is a result of feedback from the amp. I have tried doing this (I turned the volume way down on my amp) but again, after about 10 minutes of playing the pulsing/clicking began again. I am at a loss at what to do next and I'd really like to start recording, but can't until I've resolved the issue. I thought maybe I need a new soundcard, but I don't want to spend money on one if it won't fix the issue. Any help would be much appreciated :)

So I´m assumig that you are going usb from the amp to your interfase, then to the computer?
If so, did you try doing without the amp altogether?

Is the amp being fed by a voltage regulator, or straight into the wall?
It would appear that a component is getting hot and feeding a transient to the A-D converter.

If you have an interfase, I would go ahead and mic the amp, discarding its usb capability.

Affordable soundcards-interfases are likely to dissapoint you, especially if you are a proficient player.
Spending a bit more is a good investment.

Is there any settings where you can change the sample rate? if the device you are recording into is set for a different Sample Rate than the Amp is outputting through the USB port, you will get clicks. I have an old Boss effects unity and it only does 44.1 KHz so i have to make sure PT is set to 44.1 K / 16Bit when i record or i get the clicky click.

good luck

I agree, this is definitely a SOUND CARD latency issue with your computer. I had the same problem recording from a mixer into the aux input of my desktop until I installed a Turtle Beach sound card. It eliminated that problem instantly and at a decent price. However the more you spend the better sound card will sound. I just wanted to record voiceovers when I initially installed it but it also works good for keyboard or bass line demo recording.

I was working at a radio station with a 3 really good recording studios and asked the chief engineer about what sound cards I should consider and he stated they only used Turtle Beach. It has not disappointed. I'm not sure if they have one compatible with Windows 7 yet.

Hi Mike,

Yes, I am going from the USB port on the amp to the USB port on the computer and then using the program through the Fender Universal ASIO interface. I don't know what you mean by "doing without the amp altogether". Surely I need the amp to produce the sound? Also, I would like to use the USB capability as that is one of the features of the amp that made me buy it, plus it works well (besides this clicking) with Live 8. There is no voltage regulator, I've just got it plugged into the wall. Thanks for your response Mike, I will probably probe more into a soundcard.

Captainc,

I haven't found an option for a sample rate yet but I'll keep looking. My amp says it's 50/60Hz, so what you're saying is that I should change Live 8's sample rate to 50/60Hz as well, and maybe the clicking will be gone? Thanks for the tip, I'll try that out.

Brotherdave,

I am sure you are right as well, the soundcard seems to be the issue here, and the manual that came with the Live 8 Program said there could be latency issues when you listen to what you are recording through the program instead of plugging your headphones into the source and listening. I'll see what I can do about getting a better one. Thanks for your feedback!

the 50/60Hz is not the sample rate. You will only have the option of 44.1KHz or 48KHz... higher sample rates do exist (96KHz...) but those are likely your options. There must be some type of control panel for adjusting ASIO settings. It would be there. Could very well be your card as mentioned by the other guys but its worth a shot.
