Should I do it ? Wish I could afford to just go out and buy another amp. What I am looking to gain, lighter and power tube saturation at lower volume.What will I be giveing up, vintage vibe, great projection great clean tone and a sore back. Is there anything I should look for or look out for in the trade? Any other options ? My SR is pushing 110 dcbs on 3.5 JD

Bluestrucker...If it were me, I would keep the SR. You didn't mention anything about not liking the SR. I love the tone of the SRs but a great Deluxe has a great tone too...just different. Also I would think it depends on your band and the places you play...the SRs do cut through the mix very well, not sure about the deluxe, would assume it does.

All things being equal I would opt for the SR everytime (even factorying in thier wieght).

Stratman, thanks for your input I do like the super and I get good feedback from listeners likeing the sound I get. I seem to always hurt myself moveing it. Hey I'm very strong but Ive abused myself too much in the past. Now I seem to be paying for it. Back shoulder neck Its all hurtin the next day. I might take a couple of the speakers out or think about makeing into a head and seperate cab. Just a thought. JD

Go to Lowes and pick up a trolley for $30, your back will thank you.

A separate head and cab would be awesome. Nice thought. Would enable you to keep the sound you like and take it a bit easier on that back, shoulder and neck! Send a PM to Retroverbial he has a good source for cabinets for just this type of thing...although he may try to talk you into the Deluxe Reverb?

I would keep the SR and buy a used DRRI if at all possible. They usually sell for about $700. I just saw one on craigslist the other day. I guess it depends on your finances though. Good luck with your decision.

Hey now bluestrucker If I were you I'd buy an antenuator for the Super so you can cut down the output volume and still get saturation. That way if you ever need the extra volume you still have it. Also add some casters too save the back. I'm in the opposite predicament I own a Deluxe and wouldn't part with it for the world but I've been looking for a used Super for outdoor gigs.

Stratman I cant believe you are still running those GT powere tubes.r Dharma I have thought about a atenuator. Would a atenuator enable me to just run 2 10's instead of 4? After doing some reserch I am going to pass on the DRRI. I would trade for a 73 or older deluxe or deluxe reverb. I very seldom use the reverb.JD

Those were the tubes in it when I bought it...and to be honest they sounded very good. I kept them as a back up set... I have since replaced them with TADs...the best new 6L6 out there IMHO. I almost put in the post to ignore those GT's as they were no longer in the amp!

What speaker is the blue one, looks like a Alnico CTS? I really like the sound of the CTS speakers in the SR.

yes Its a newer cts. From what I can tell it sounds just like the other three.I am running the SED =c= power tubes with RCA pre's out of an old tube organ. It idles very quiet at 48ma.

That's no CTS.

It looks to be an alnico Eminence as used in the 5F6 Bassman re-issues.
