Here in the Susqeuhanna Valley of Pennsylvainia we got hammered by tropical storm Lee. So far we have seven or eight people dead or missing swept away after trying to drive around barricaded roads and stalling in deep water. Bridges and roads collapsed under the high currents. We got lucky here in babalooga's little world, only a little dampness seeping into the basemant.
I did take a few of my favorite guitars upstairs (rather safe than sorry). We live out in the country so our water supply is a springhouse, kind of like a shallow well. the water level in the springhouse rose enough that the overflow was overwhelmed and tripped the breaker when the pump and motor got submerged. It took about twelve hours for the level to go down before I could restart the pump, but all is good. Every road I tried to find my way to work was flooded so I spent Thursday at home with Mrs. babalooga   . Please people, don't try to cross a flooded road It's not worth your life to get to where you are going! Anyone else had any experience with this storm?

Glad to hear you and Mrs Babalooga are safe! Guitars too!!

Been quite a summer...Friend of mine in Vermont watched his garage being swept away by the floods produced by Irene. 30 years worth of wood tools gone! He's a carpenter by trade. Or was...I had a number of trees fall around me and onto the electrical wires due to the wind of Irene. This past Tuesday night we finally got the trees off the lines. 8 days to get that done! Now I have to get someone to take the trees away as the electric company doesn't do that. They just take them down.

And I think we're just at the peak of the Hurricane Season too which doesn't end till November.

Hi Tyronne, right now the last thing we need is any wind. The ground is so soft and full of water, the tree roots don't have much to hang on to. Stay safe my friend.

Swift water in a creek that's normally a few inches deep has killed more people around here in flood conditions than anything else....I know of one creek crossing that's normally ankle deep,in one rainy period some guys tried to cross it in a car and the car drowned out,one guy went to get somebody to pull them out,and when he got back the car had been swept downstream about 100 yards, with the other two guys dead inside...to look at this place you would never believe it.

Yeah it only takes a second and you're sucked in. The worst part is people ignore road blocks and warning signs, and then a fire and rescue crew has to risk their life to save an idiot  .

If you can except a little humor please, forgive me if you cant. Around these parts(Rural Western Washington) when it floods it creates new habitat for migrating Salmon. Naturally they take advantage of the new habitat/Flooded farmers field, and become trapped. It's not at all uncommon to see a guy chasing a big fish out in the middle of some farmers field, or maybe a fish swimming across the road, with some guy hot on his trail. The fish and game cops take a dim view of the practice, but it goes on everywhere in spite of them.

OMG Danny you need to take a video of that and put it up on Youtube, I now have that image burned into my pea sized brain. Thanks for the laugh I needed that. A local school had loaders scooping up mud and dead fish that washed up in the parking lot so they could open the school. My sister in-law said the combination of dead fish, heating oil, and raw sewage almost caused her to eject her lunch.
