I didn't have much respect for him as a guitarplayer until he came clean about his condition in "Dirt". Reading about how he just can't move one day and the next day he had to be stage numbed out on painkillers and alcohol (because the painkillers didn't do much for him). The only one in the Grue that had an actuall pain to numb with drugs.

I agree 100%!! Mick was a big influence on me in my early days. Motley Crue was the second concert I ever went to. The Shout At The Devil Tour.. I saw him play sometime in the mid 2000's and he absolutely played flawlessly.

Just finished that book.....poor dude has a crippling $@! disease and toured for years like that. Not my favorite hair band but i do like his style and he plays a strat and is pretty damn good.Mick was always into the blues when the rest of the band wasn't.He has shrunk over the years and is really messed up from it...He really did remind me of Cousin It from the Adams Family

Disease/Drugs/morals or not. no one can deny his skill with a guitar. That is really what there is to respect. That and the fact that he plays no mater what. 8)

Never was a huge Crue fan.
to me Dr Feelgood was their best effort.
Most of us who came up in that era were into the more technical players.
He never struck me as a highly technical player or a shredder.

I remember Mick getting guitar player of the year in magazine polls several years in a row and thinking
the people voting must not be guitar players.

They had alot of hits so can't knock the song writing end of it.

Dont' listen to that kind of music at all anymore anyway just giving my opinion.

Mick Mars was one of the judges the other night at the King of the Blues finals.

Oh yeah, he plays a beat up 70's Strat.

Crue!

I'm not sure what you expect as a response. I like Mick Mars playing, always thought he was the best part of his band, I hope he gets better if possible, if not I hope the Doctors can take good care of him so that he can still play guitar and not be uncomfortable or sick.

Even in my metal days, the Crue never really did it for me. But I always thought Mick Mars was a highly underrated player. If you listen to Crue, especially live, Mick's guitar really is 95% of the band's sound, in that he single-handedly carries the rhythm, melody, and leads. Not only can he shred, he has added textures that reference a multitude of styles (pop, blues, country) to the band's music.
The Mick Mars blues disc has been rumored for years. I really hope he makes it happen. The guy has had a rough ride, and it would be great for him to make his pet project a reality.
