Asked this before on the Strat forums, but that really isn't the right place.
Well anyway, what are good songs for a guitar duel and what part of them?
I plan to ask one of my fellow school mates to play with me in our school talent show and I think dueling guitars would be fun. My plan is (he has yet to find out) that I go out and do my solo act. Then he does his if he's doing one and at the end I walk out and pull out some Voodoo Child then he goes then me and so fourth but then we end together on the same song.
So my question is, what are good songs to go back and forth on? Me and him both like
KISS so I was thinking a little bit of this Tommy Thayer jam where he solos the goes to a D-A-G chord progression into Black Dog but other then that im stuck.
Maybe some others could be...
Sweet Child 'o Mine
Barracuda
I Love Rock 'n Roll
Iron Man
Crazy Train
Freebird
.......possible ending?

Any other suggestions would be awesome! Thanks guys and gals!

To me, the best dueling guitar playing is with the Pat Travers band. Check out Snorthing Whisky or Boom Boom out Goes The Lights. Pat Travers with Pat Thrall is by far the best two lead guitar dueling rock band there is or was.

This is an easy one...any Blues song would be good for this...seems to me I remember a few guys doing this

...We used to do this quite a bit when I had a band with a guy who played awesome slide, it was fun to go back and forth with him in good natured way...he could really push me and it was a blast to do... think Derek and the Dominoes.

I was going to suggest "Freebird" but I see you have it covered.

Another classic would be "Hotel California" - splitting up that solo into several more pieces than Felder and Walsh did. And of course you would then have the dual harmonised Bmin arpeggio sequence at the end for you both to finish off with. Always works in the covers duo I play in.

And there's always Thin Lizzy if you can bear the sheer naffness of the material..

Gary Moore and BB King duos work well too - "Since I Met You Baby" and "The Thrill is Gone" are the two we do. Especially good if you have completely different styles.

Seeing as it's just two guitars and no other backing, I'd say Not Fade Away.....Goin Down The Road Feelin' Bad....and maybe Little Wing or Hey Joe...and definitely a blues tune.

Rock-n-roll suzie
Stevie
Gettin Bettah....many more. They were a great guitar duo.I saw them many times and with many different line ups.I have to say though Pat Thrall and Mars Cowling and Tommy Aldridge were probably my favorite line up

If you really want to test your mettle try "Phoenix" by Wishbone Ash-Warning: This song should only be attempted by the skilled and adventurous.
