I don't truly hold to that fact,...but I have to say it,my Bros. in Texas understand and love us for it,even though they think we're full of it for saying it.

There's a lot of truth in that statement, though...Sam Houston, Davy Crockett (and his little Tennessee militia he brought to the Alamo) and many other towering figures in the Texas revolution came from Tennessee.

I apologize for my ignorance. The bright blue speaker was not made by the Chicago Telephone Company. JD

None taken whatsoever...

Do you know how to tell if a man comes from Texas?
Don't ask him. If he's from there, he'll tell you...if he's not, there's no need to embarrass him! :P

As a small boy 6to12, off and on I lived in Austin and San Antonio. Both beautiful Cities and the heat was no worse than Pendletons 112*. The southern accent was very catchy, and before you knew it you sounded like a native. In those days us kids rode the city buss from The Rosedale neighborhood in to downtown Austin. Went to the Army surplus store, bought a canteen or an army helmet and rode the buss back home for about $ .45 total and had $ .05 left over for an ice cream. The parks were great, Barton Springs was one of the coolest swimming places I've ever seen. And the Colorado River was a great place to fish and play. In San Antone there was The Alamo and the city Zoo both very cool for kids. Of course I'm looking at Texas, Through the eyes of a kid in the 50's. but from all the pics I see from friends and relatives It's still much the same. (I LOVE TEXAS) and would go back any time for a visit or to stay. Remember, (THE STARS AT, NIGHT ARE BIG AND BRIGHT, DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS) Oh yeah don't forget (THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON YOU, ALL THE LIVE LONG DAY. And for heaven sakes don't forget (THE YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS). The only negative thing I remember are Snakes,Scorpions and STICKERS in the grass.  8)

Thanks for all the info! I have not decided yet on Texas. Now, just today, I was offered a job in Kansas (around Wichita). I know less about KS than almost any other state. Can anyone give me some info on KS? Once again, I have lived in the northeast almost my entire life. So I know it would be a huge scenery change.

Flatter than an armadillo ran over by a steamroller.

You will get excited when you see a tree or a large rock.

Colder than a stainless steel toilet seat in the winter.

If you're afraid of tornados, stay put.

Having insulted them so much, I can say this: every body I ever met from Kansas was nice. The people seem to be really cool.
