See, the thing about this is, and I hope I'm wrong, I don't think this will sell well. I'm a huge Cobain and Nirvana fan, and I have no interest in this guitar. I like to try to play my Nirvana songs on my shiny new guitar. I'm not Kurt and never will be. I'll never smash a guitar. The real Kurt, as you point out, got his Jaguar in a pawn shop and beat it up the old fashioned way. I guess rode worn guitars do sell, so luckily for Fender not everyone thinks like I do, but Nirvana is a tricky subject. The old fogies who hate or failed to understand Cobain and Nirvana, of course, have no interest in this guitar. But fans of Nirvana know that a corporate pre-packaged "fake" beat up signature guitar is exactly the opposite of Kurt's musical way too. Notice I didn't say "stood for." I don't think Cobain was some mythical genius with any kind of important political message. I just like his songs. But my point is...I'm not sure who will buy this guitar. Seems like Fender is missing the mark in a "big corporation" kind of way with this one. Kurt would have seen buying a pre-ugly corporate guitar like this as cheesy, IMO. So do I, as a fan.

Just the input of one person, if Fender cares about any feedback. I'll be buying lots of Fender guitars in the future, but probably not this one. I prefer the shiny new pawn shop mustang, for example.

I'm happy that Fender is paying respect to Cobain by doing this.

I think you nailed it.

It's kinda like having a "Frank Zappa Signature SG". Not something Frank would want, endorse or mildly approve of. I don't see Kurt as someone who would have actively seek out an endorsement from Fender or whomever. He bought a guitar, made it how he liked it, played it. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Cobain, Jag: I Like it. It actually reminds Me of the man/kid himself. New/young and kind of raged around the edges. Some how COOL in many ways. 8)

Keanu Reeves, Taylor Momsen, Zooey Deschanel, William Shatner and Bruce Willis also sell more records than anybody here. What's your point?

Cobain won the face and scream-voice gene-pool. So let's all buy a guitar that Fender slapped his name on. And while we're at it, let's all buy Fender's new George Clooney signature amplifier.

haters gonna hate...
personally, I wish I had the cash to buy it, not because I like artist models or "road worn" guitars, I'm all for making your own sound (but basing/building off the sounds of others), but because it's THE ONLY LEFTY FENDER JAG. jeez. Fender needs to stop neglecting lefties.

I think that rather than go for a dented and scratched "Cobain" Jag,I'd go the extra bucks and get a near mint real '65 Jaguar with OHSC for about $3800.

It's the same story with any Artist model, they are done to the specs of the Artist who's name is on it. It's quite simple, if you like the way the artist sounds, get their guitar, if you don't then buy one with the specs you like. Just cause Cobain is like Marmite doesn't mean the guitar is particularly good. In my eyes, as a Jag player, the specs, the looks and the sound are damn good, and as a Nirvana fan it's a piece of memorabilia that i would enjoy greatly.

I think that sums it up really, and i think there are a fair few people out there who share my opinions and my money's on the KC Jag selling as many units as the Clapton or SRV Strat, like i said, it's the same with all Artist models.

I think it's a cool looking axe... I was never a huge Nirvana fan but I never disliked them either... it was something of a passing fad for me but no doubt, Cobain made a mark on music history, love him or hate him. I also tend to agree with the opinions posted regarding that Kurt himself would probably not have given two hoots about actually endorsing such a guitar but who's to say Hendrix would have either, and there's no lack of people who love those right handed reverse headstock models (which personally I can't stand the look of...sorry if you're a fan)

I'm guessing it will be moderately successful and it's cool to see Fender mix it up a bit. I'm not going to run out and buy one but if it fell in my lap I guess I'd have fun with it...it looks like a fun guitar but I do agree that coil splitting would have been nice.

That's the nice thing about living in the free world... it you don't like it there's plenty of other guitars to choose from.

im the biggest Nirvana fan out there... I LOVE the idea of this guitar. Would I buy one? Nah...not to play.. maybe as a cool display piece but jaguars for me are super uncomfortable. I had a sunburst jaguar reissue years back and it was bulky and heavy and drove me nuts. They do look SUPER cool tho.. love the look but hate the feel.

lets get a comp. mustang Kurt model.... thats what we need...
more mustangs... :)

Wow! Brad even provided a link, and labeled it "click here" for the details of this model. It comes in both right and left-hand versions. Here is another link showing both.

For left-handed readers:

This is more where it's at. My '65 MM2 is a red/white clone of this except not the upper Mustang switches of course.

Even MORE where it's at. John McLaughlin with Miles' "rock band" playing his Musicmaster 2. Now THAT would have made sense for Fender to reissue. A guitar played by a guy who could actually play guitar. What a concept.

Wouldn't a Lake Placid Blue Mustang Competition model be more fitting for a Cobain signature guitar?
