I think Fender should reissue the JagStang which matches Kurt's namesake signature Jag to perfection since Larry L. Brooks built the Custom Shop original for the late Seattle grunge supremo in 1993.

Now, how do you think about a bass version of the Stang?

I can say that Kurt Cobain sure deserved a signature Fender long before Kenny Wayne Sheppard. I agree that he didn't play the Jaguar very much but It's honestly the nicest guitar Fender could offer in the whole Jag and Jaq-stang era guitars. I'm still waiting for a licensed signature Hendrix strat already though since you guys are doing Seattle Musicians. You would sell more Hendrix Strats than any ever.

I was never really a Nirvana fan--I liked a few songs, I liked the fact that they killed spandex/hairspray/shred and I thought Cobain was a good lyricist, but that was about it.

One thing I can say positive for Cobain was his commitment to doing his music HIS way. He had a specific vision for his art, and he only compromised in the sense that he couldn't always get the sound in his head onto tape. Also, he raised the level of appreciation some criminally under-rated Fender instruments (Jaguars, Mustangs, silverface amps, etc)...he proved you could create your own sound without a refrigerator-sized rackmount setup.

Will I buy this guitar? No, I don't like short-scale necks...but it doesn't offend me the way that the Jim Root Telecasters and Stratocasters do. That douchebag needs to go back to being a plumber's apprentice or assistant manager at Dairy Queen or whatever he did before.

I think it's cool that Fender is offering this at the price they are--it makes me long for more vintage-style or artist-inspired instruments that ooze vibe at a low(er) price.

...and while the debate whether Cobain "deserves" :?: another signature axe (Jag-stang, anyone?) rages on, it's a travesty that Tab Benoit, Keith Richards and Dusty Hill (double-humbuckered Thinline Telecaster, "Micawber" Telecaster, and Telecaster Bass/early Precision Bass players, respectively) do not have signature instruments designed in their honor...if a similarly priced signature/artist-inspired model of any of those artists' instruments were released, I would seriously consider buying one.

The "014" prefix in the model number indicates MIM.

Word has it on the street that Kurt taught David Grohl how to play guitar.

Haters hate all you want. The guy sold more records and made more money than us all put together in a room on a rainy day. Plus, Ill add he wrote the #1 song that changed an era voted by Rolling Stone. I cant argue with those creds!!.

Besides, I like the roadworn look in a Jag. It's Japanese made, or a version of a japanese model. Fender JG 65 KC has actually been out in Japan for ages. It looks identical, except the $@! version is all shiney and new looking.

I hate to take the bait here. I've never been enamored of Cobain. But I recognized immediately, even 20 years ago, that he knew *exactly* what he wanted to do with his guitar. Musically and lyrically, he aimed for a certain feeling. He was never trying to be Vai or DiMeola or Beck, and we already have those players, so we didn't need them. He was trying to be himself, which was the whole point.

He could play "better," if by better you mean stringing plenty of 16th notes together in an articulate way. That wasn't his aim or his music.

As for "lacking talent," I look forward to the poster demonstrating what true talent is. Where may I buy your CDs or download your music, sir?
