Fender® introduces one of its most distinctive signature models ever, the Kurt Cobain Jaguar®-meticulously modeled on the battered and highly unusual 1965 Jaguar that Cobain wielded during the heady early-’90s era when Nirvana ruled rock and led a musically stunning and culturally subversive movement.

See, the thing about this is, and I hope I'm wrong, I don't think this will sell well. I'm a huge Cobain and Nirvana fan, and I have no interest in this guitar. I like to try to play my Nirvana songs on my shiny new guitar. I'm not Kurt and never will be. I'll never smash a guitar. The real Kurt, as you point out, got his Jaguar in a pawn shop and beat it up the old fashioned way. I guess rode worn guitars do sell, so luckily for Fender not everyone thinks like I do, but Nirvana is a tricky subject. The old fogies who hate or failed to understand Cobain and Nirvana, of course, have no interest in this guitar. But fans of Nirvana know that a corporate pre-packaged "fake" beat up signature guitar is exactly the opposite of Kurt's musical way too. Notice I didn't say "stood for." I don't think Cobain was some mythical genius with any kind of important political message. I just like his songs. But my point is...I'm not sure who will buy this guitar. Seems like Fender is missing the mark in a "big corporation" kind of way with this one. Kurt would have seen buying a pre-ugly corporate guitar like this as cheesy, IMO. So do I, as a fan.

As true as most of this is, I'm sure there are plenty of spoilt little rich kids who will get their hands on one.

I don't want to buy "signature" guitar at all. I agree with Skirt So Plain in every word.

I've never understood anybody as lacking in talent as Kurt Cobain having a signature guitar. I understand that Fender is in the business to make money (and I'm sure this thing will sell), but why make a signature guitar for someone who could barely play the guitar?

I'm sorry to defer with our most distinguished forum mebers but here was a chance for Fender to put out a sort of iconic instrument from a Legend such as Kurt and sell it at least for a Custom Shop price a la Clapton or Gilmour or make it a super limited edition 8-10K MB guitar (which I LOVE) and instead they are releasing it as an artist model available to everyone at a reasonable price, even for lefties. With due respect. Congrats Fender and I would say for us rich spoilt brats SCORE!
I would have preferred to see the Competition Mustang of the Smells Like Teen Spirit Video come out, but SCORE! either way. I WILL BE BUYING THIS GUITAR.

You should also check out the 2008 Classic Player Jaguar Special HH. It looks to be the exact same guitar, and probably can find it used. Only issues with these guitars is the Adjusto-Matic bridges. They have very loose intination screws that buzz like crazy. The slots on the bridge where the strings rest are not deep enough either, making them jump off the bridge if you play it too hard. I remedied this be replacing the stock bridge with a Mastery bridge and now love it. You can not beat the circuitry in the Classic Special HH ... it allows you to 'coil tap' the humbucker pickups from sounding like a twangy Strat all the way to a grungy Les Paul. Great guitar once you mod the Fender oversites. Though, I have a feeling this Cobain guitar does not have the circuitry to 'coil tap' the pickups; but rather it has individual tone dials, like the normal Jaguars. Personally, I like the Classic Special HH's 'coil tapping' circuitry much more. It gives you a very wide range of pickup tones.

Jaguars are in. Young lads are buying. In the long list of signature guitars, the latest addition. Gotta move the ball forward. I think it was the right time for putting this guitar out.

I am not exactly a Cobain fan, but I liked some Nirvana songs. Artist aside though, this is a cool looking guitar. I am a fan of the CS relics, and Roadworns, and this one looks well done also.

Thanks for the picture Brad. :) But, is the decal really like that on the guitar? I've seen a similar neck picture for the CP 60s, but the actual guitar decal was not period correct with the patent numbers, like the picture shows. :?:

I thought Cobain played a Mustang or an old Musicmaster or something?
