Even after 30yrs of playing, I still play along with CDs or live concerts in a video format.

The night before last was 'Freddie King: Dallas, Texas Jan. 20th 1973' http://www.amazon.com/Freddie-King-Dallas-Texas-Jan/dp/B00006L93Y/ref=sr_1_3?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1315267201&sr=1-3.

Last night I played with the rare OOP video 'Night of the Guitar' http://www.amazon.com/Night-Guitar-Haycock-Climax-Blues/dp/B000MDK4II (this link is to the CD). A Japanese friend sent me a copy of the video years ago, and I converted it to DVD.

Tonight it's Ronnie Earl 'Hope Radio' http://www.amazon.com/Hope-Radio-Ronnie-Earl-Broadcasters/dp/B001C0I630/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1315267634&sr=1-2. I had just put the DVD in when I decided to check the Lounge first.

I aim to play/practice my bass an hour every day in the evenings, with more time on weekends. I mostly play songs that I have a bass line for, since by the time I get home from work, I'm too tired/annoyed to want to do anything but enjoy playing. Sometimes I do practice the modes (1 & 2 octaves), the chord arpeggios derived from the modes, and intervals. My teacher says that if you just play stuff you already know, take a quarter from one pocket and put it in a different pocket ‘cuz all you did was entertain yourself. And sometimes, I’m COMPLETELY OK with that! :D

It’s interesting to see what others do as part of their practice session. I’ll have to pick up some of those habits.

Today I did some hybrid picking. Nice and slow.
Also some Wes octaves.
Chromatic exercises I do everyday, with kind of an absent mind.

But every day I thank God for those early lessons and practise. Even after all this time it means my theory is right on the money and I have a flawless left hand fingering technique - it's just using a damn plectrum I have trouble with!

Ditto. I've just given up trying, though. Picks for strumming, fingers for everything else.

Being semi-retarded ...I mean retired I somtemes play 4-5 hours a day. not in one go mind you but every couple of hours I'll pick it up unless there is something I have to learn FOR MONEY....the longest I usually go in one session if I lose myself is about 3 hours and it just flies by

Sometimes I go 4 hours and sometimes I go 1 hour. Depends what I'm practicing for. But generally 2-3 hours a day on most days. I sit in front of the TV at night and just run scale exercises a lot of the time. It's good to know your scales well enough that you don't have to pay attention to them as much when you play em. That is not to say that any beginner should just do this. A metronome needs to be used a lot for lesser practiced guitarists. Guitarists especially solo acts are notoriously bad at timing unless they practice it regularly.

You should be proficient in transposing the Barney Theme Song into any key so as to accommodate the vocal range(s) of all your charges.

On a personal level about an hour. But this is a hard working band. We practice twice a week and have steady 2 and 3-hour gigs every week. and in a lot of cases 1-2 shows added to those.

For example: Next week we'll practice Monday and Tuesday. Play the Mirage on Thursday (2-hrs). Travel to Bakersfield on Friday for a show. Back to Vegas on Saturday for our Green Valley Ranch show (3-hrs). Then we have a big show at The Hard Rock on Sunday.. So in a lot of ways, our steady gigs can be considered practice as well.

I'll still go over solos and new songs in between all of that on a daily basis.
