That sounds like a blacktop thats been modded for coil splitting, which isn't a particularly big deal.

'Zactly. Depending on what wires are coming out the pickups it could be done in half an hour's soldering, with a push-pull knob for splitting or options on a fiveway switch, as the player saw fit. And the Blacktop seems to come in under the required price.

Yours if you want it, Negative Creep...

Depends whether it can be done with the stock humbuckers or not. Other than that it's the price of a dollop of solder and a push-pull pot or a five-way megaswitch, depending which way you'd want it done.

And a Blacktop Tele, of course. They're running about $450 in the shops I believe? Well under your original stated budget.

So go to - a guitar for heros!

Cheers - C

So a $450 for the Tele, plus I saw a DiMarzion Push/Pull Pot for $15, with the custom work prolly around $50, so a lil over $500 im guessin

I've seen some previously owned (I say previously owned because the last I saw looked like it had never been touched) Blacktop Teles for pretty low prices lately. And then even if the stock pickups wouldn't work for splitting the coils, you could get a set that would work and still be under budget. Also soldering is a very simple task, and if you're not comfortable with your soldering abilities, you probably know someone that knows how to solder properly even if you don't know that they do at this point; just ask around.
