Hello all

My recent scouring of the internet has brought the Egnater Tweeker to my attention. And frankly... It seems to have everything I could possibly want in an amp! Perfect wattage (15) and it is within my price range too (700 or below (This one's 600)), and i wouldnt like to go much higher.

But before I let this amp take over my soul, I would love an opinion from any of you guys and gals out there. Does it take pedals well? How much gain does it have, and should i use an overdrive pedal with it? Hell, does it sound good clean on its own?

Check it out here
http://www.egnateramps.com/Products/Twe ... #Secondary

Thank you one and all!

It's a great amp, and will take an OD pedal nicely.

But as I suspected - all those tweak switches don't add anything that you can't achieve with the existing gain and EQ sections.

Before you buy, look at other Egnater amps that don't have all these redundant mini switches. Easier to see the wood from the trees.. Look at the Rebel 20 maybe. With the ability to switch between EL84s and 6V6s, you have genuine tweakability(?) if thats what you're after!

I would rather have a used, USA made DRRI for the same price as the Chinese made Egnater.

I'm a huge fan of Egnater amps, and while adey may be correct that you could achieve the same "tweakings" with the tone knobs, my experience with the Rebel amps is a bit different... The "bright" and "tight" switches do some shelving-type EQ that the tone knobs will not.

As far as Egnater's taking pedals well... My Rebel is awesome with front end pedals (with a good compressor and my Zendrive, I really can get an under-a-grand-Dumble thing going), and the effects loops is quiet and robust.

I was using an Egnater exclusively for a couple years before the endorsement thing, and I would still without it.

Thanks guys!!!! :D

EgFryer and adey: perhaps you could shed some light on the ol' tube switching buisness on the Rebel... What sounds would each tube achieve (Marshall vs fender, Vox vs fender, etc)?

Shimmilou: While a DRRI would be heavenly, I have a feeling it'll be a chilly day in hell before a DRRI goes for under 700 bucks... used or otherwise... But if hell DOES freeze over, point me in the right direction please! :D

This is great, keep it coming!

BJay - first of all, I'm not sure I agree with adey that the switches on the Tweaker are redundant. You should really play one yourself, especially at the price.

As for the tube switching on the Rebel... There is a definite difference when switching between the two sets of power tubes. But in general, a bit too much is made of the poWer tubes as the source of the "Fender" or "Vox" sounds. There's a helluva lot more to the sound of a Vox AC than the power tubes.

The Rebel produces a very Fender-y clean tone, reminiscent of a Deluxe, when turned all the way to the 6V6 side. As you add gain, it gets, as you'd expect, a bit more Marshall-y. On the EL84 side, the tone gets a bit hairier, raunchier, more aggressive. With the two sets of tubes blended, the hybrid amp is louder and punchier than with either set of tubes alone.

The "bright" switch gets it into the Top Boost neighborhood, but I don't think it ever really sounds like an AC30, which is fine by me. I use a Rebel 20 head, and find that it sounds more like a Fender through an open back cab and more like a Marshall through the Egnater closed back cab.

With a compressor pushing my Zendrive pushing the preamp and adjusting the gain staging, I can get the liquid, hairless overdrive you associate with modern amps like Mesa, Two-Rock, etc.

They're nice.

BJay1435,

Check eBay for one. Here are just a few that have sold recently for under $700. Though you might have to keep an eye out for the deals. :)

I agree 100% with Jim. I also have a Rebel 20. With the QC from Fender lately, I'd look at the Egnater. Mine's almost 2 years old, I can get every tone I've had in my head and then some, and I gig the snot out of it and never had one single problem with it. The Tweaker switches are not really redundant. The switches on all Egnater's products do something. That's what blows me away. The tone can be familiar or unique. It's your choice. It's not a one trick pony. I've been playing with the Tweaker quite a bit at GC. I still like my Rebel, and I may add a Tweaker at some point. Try them out you may like what Egnater does, you may not. But these things are rock solid, made in China or not.

I've got a Tweaker and I love it. It's a very versatile little amp.

You guys are the best! :D :D :D.... EXCEPT NOW I CAN'T DECIDE!!! :P

It appears as though quality is not an issue for any egnater, and neither is versatility.
I'll be headin' over to my guitar center today and I'll let you guys know what I think

USA, Fender, great reputation as one of the best amps, rather keep the money here, etc. The Egnater can apparently get close to the Fender sound, so why not get the real thing? I have considered the Egnater, sounds really good, but like I said I would rather have a US made Fender.
