Hey,

Here is the thing, I have an Fender Squire Strat HSS Affinity Series. My first real electric guitar, but the thing is a Squire just isnt a Real Fender... Right? Now I was wonder seeing as I don't have enough ($) for a Real Fender Stratocaster, can I buy a Fender neck and replace it on my Squire then the body and so on untill I have the whole thing?

Is this going to have the desired affect, is this even possible?

Please jelp!!!

Why not merely set money aside periodically until you have an amount sufficient to buy a "real guitar" outright?

There are some specific skills involved in competently assembling a guitar in the manner you contemplate and it's real easy to hose the job up without the requisite knowledge and experience.

And lo, it was written; thou shalt not replace a Squier neck with a Fender one, for then will the world believe that you have a real Fender guitar when The Company has not received monies for said instrument. Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's, give unto Fender the price of a new MIM or MIA Strat. And this is the law from Mount Corona.

...

Hello EON: you have perfectly illustrated why Fender don't sell spare necks.

However, if you find a real Fender neck somewhere you will find that it fits the neck pocket on your Squier. Or you could buy a licenced Fender style neck from an aftermarket seller, such as Mighty Mite, Warmoth, WD Music and others and you will find that fits too. If you do the latter don't even think of putting a fake Fender logo on the headstock: that is a big no-no round here...

Cheers - C

Hi EON

First off welcome to the forums!!!!!

Here is my advice......... Keep the Squier as it is!!!!!

Don't get stuck in guitar snobbery. The not a real Fender only a Squier will no doubt lead to its only a Mexican Fender not a real American Fender an there you go chasing the stars.

Use the Squier as it was intended learn to play it get you technique down and at the same time saving your cash to purchase when your ready and have tried some out the Fender of your choice.

Just my thoughts hope this helps.

My first tele was a blue affinity squier and I got it third hand, it was well used and well played, it played great. I now have 8 "proper" Fender Telecasters (4 American and 4 Mexican) and the Squier has gone on to pastures new to a young lady learning to play.

Here's the thing. It is the PLAYER not the guitar or what name is on the headstock.

Went to see a guy at the Gaffney, SC Peach Festival. Awesome guitar player. Totally skilled and amazing playing in a 3 piece outfit. He just ripped it up. He was playing a SQUIER Strat.

Would he have been a better player on a Fender USA Strat? No. Would the crowd of about 1500 have enjoyed him more if he played a Fender USA Strat instead of the Squier? No. Did anyone but ME notice it was a Squier? Probably not.

All good advice..

Starting with a Squier and turning it into a 'Fender' by replacing piece after piece, is an expensive way to go. And you'll end up with something that may be good, but won't be the official Fender you probably really want.

I have 3 Fenders, but my favourite is a much loved and much modified Squier Standard. When I think about the money I spent on that Squier, I surely could have had a Mexican strat, or been most of the way to a US model. And it still says "Squier" on the headstock! Terrible, terrible economincs..

I say do not doctor the Squier in any way. Use your time studying on it as is. Better things are on the way, with the right attitude. Look up Fenders on the web everyday! This will help you stay focused on saving for what you want! Good luck! Visualize!

Tanx guys for the help, and I think I will rather save up for the 'Real Fender' rather than doctoring my Squire. I'll take the waiting as preparation for when I get my Fender.

Tanx for all the help!
Hmmm maby I should get a Tele... Well then again Hendrix did play a Strat or what about those new Pawn Shop guits... or what about...
