I'm from Dayton OH, home of the OPs, and went to school with Jimmy 'Diamond' Williams, drummer for the OPs. I remember when he was asked to join the band, and he took me to some of their rehearsals.

I already knew Sugarfoot because the 'Ohio Untouchables' used to practice in the garage in an alley a few houses down from my childhood home.

The Ohio Untouchables were formed by the late great Robert Ward. Ward played the guitar on Wilson Pickett's ‘I Found A Love’. In this YT clip you can 'hear' the future Ohio Players http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMwhq3tAHRY.

Great funk bass in your Funkadelics clip, t. The guitar player reminds me of The (Ernie) Isley Brothers style around the "Fight the Power Pt. 1" time frame.

I feel that all guitar players should learn to play funk guitar, this does wonders for the right-hand rhythm technique.

I started off as blues/rock player, but also played along with all the ‘Funkadelic’ albums. The first version of ‘Visions of the Mind’ (my first band) was based on the ‘Funkadelics’.
Image That's me on the far left, from 1975 playing on the city's show mobile at a local park. The kids didn't know what was happenin'!

Later, disco roared in and we had to learn all those ‘Saturday Fever’ songs, along with Brothers Johnsons songs. This really gave me a loose right-hand!

Image The second, disco, version of 'VOTM' (me in the chair), when we did a midwest tour with 'BRICK' when they had their monster hit 'Dazz' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt2rqO9SeXM&feature=fvst. I learned a lot about putting on a show from those guys.
