Is this for real? If so, does anyone know anything about it? It looks like it says Fender on the headstock.

with the availability of really good waterslide decals on the web, ANYTHING can now say "Fender" on the headstock.
If anything it is probably some version of the Starcaster and whomever posted it got it wrong.

I believe that is a STARCASTER by Fender and not a Fender Stargazer. Stargazer is a model name used by Schecter, not Fender. The STARCASTER by Fender is an entry level beginner electric Strat type guitar often sold in a "Strat Pack" with a little amp for beginners.

There was also a Fender Starcaster acoustic electric back in the old CBS days that actually is highly collectible.

But what is pictured here is almost certainly an S1 (the first model) Starcaster by Fender which you can spot by the pointy arrow shaped headstock similar to the headstock on the short lived and somewhat collectible Fender Swinger electric guitar. The Starcaster S2 model went to the traditional Fender peghead shape.

The Starcaster by Fender guitars are contracted out in the far east and have been sold at places like Amazon, Sam's Club, Costco, etc. They basically are a third brand of guitar in the Fender line and would rank in quality below Squier. At one time the Starcaster was included on the Fender website as part of the FMIC product line, but was dropped from the website years ago. It is still manufactured by FMIC and sold by mass retail outlets like Amazon.com.
