Machine Gun From New Year's Eve '69 at the Fillmore East has the be the most outstanding piece of guitar wizardry ever put to videotape.Although the resolution on the film is poor and the whole format of the video is ho-hum at the best, the quality of the performance is without equal. The Woodstock version of The Star Spangled Banner is a close second,it's a pity that Machine Gun wasn't captured in such high fidelity.
+1, his last performance too if I remember, oh and Johnny B Goode at Berkley is possibly 4th behind Montereys Wild thing, just heres my bet:
1. Machine Gun Live Fillmore East
2. Star Spangled Banner Live Woodstock
3. Wild Thing Live Monterey Pop
4. Johnny B. Goode Live Berkley
5. All Along the Watchtower Live Isle of Wight
6. Purple Haze Live Woodstock
7. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Live IDK
8. Voodoo Child Live Woodstock
9. Here My Train A Comin Live on Film
10. Like A Rolling Stone Live Monterey Pop

My friend showed me video from Monterey Pop Festival yesterday and it was awesome. Now I am looking for the full video.

I understand where you're coming from, but Clapton was in awe of Hendrix from the moment he first met him and has said so many times, when Hendrix jammed with Cream he did Killin' Floor, and Clapton admitted from then on he just stood back and watched, because Eric said he could never master the tune, and Jimi nailed it..

Reb I would have to kindly disagree with some of your points...Yes Clapton thought Hendrix was great but Hendrix was in awe of Clapton as well and said the first person he wanted to play with upon arrival in London was Clapton, as he and Cream were the best thing around. As for Killing Floor, Clapton said he hadn't developed the technique to play it (although he did play it years later) and neither Jack nor Ginger knew the song. And the reason he watched Hendrix was not simply because of his awesome playing, but his wildness and antics on stage and that made him sit back a bit.
And remember one thing you must remember when reading things that EC says, he is an English Gentlemen, and therefore a little more humble about his talents (always has been) than us brash Americans. Hendrix didn't learn to stop all that guitar burning, playing behind his back crap until later in his career and learned that the Music was more important than the show. IMHO as always.
