+1

I only saw two of his shows but between them I'd unequivocally give the nod to Monterey.

Unfortunately, I can see him only on video records. Do you know about really good live performance which is recorded on video?

Machine Gun from Band Of Gypsies - The black and white version from the Fillmore. The greatest electric guitar performance ever, in my opinion.

I consider this, the best live three piece rock recording ever made.

I was there. Yes, I agree, this was the best that I saw of him, he was outright amazing.

Jimi Hendrix's closing set at the Monterey Pop Festival (following the Who's destruction of their own instruments) was only 40 minutes long - but what an impressive 40 minutes!

Will anyone who has seen the footage of him burning his guitar on stage (shown on the cover of the DVD) every forget that image?

Machine Gun From New Year's Eve '69 at the Fillmore East has the be the most outstanding piece of guitar wizardry ever put to videotape.Although the resolution on the film is poor and the whole format of the video is ho-hum at the best, the quality of the performance is without equal. The Woodstock version of The Star Spangled Banner is a close second,it's a pity that Machine Gun wasn't captured in such high fidelity.

Nope...great performance, but greatest live three peice rock recording ever was Crossroads, by Cream followed closely by the performance of "Stepping Out, from Live Cream Vol II. IMHO of course.

I understand where you're coming from, but Clapton was in awe of Hendrix from the moment he first met him and has said so many times, when Hendrix jammed with Cream he did Killin' Floor, and Clapton admitted from then on he just stood back and watched, because Eric said he could never master the tune, and Jimi nailed it..

The one I saw at the Hollywood Bowl in 68. There is a 8mm clip taken from the audience stage right but no audio exists to my knowledge. His only concert at that venue. During Foxey Lady while at his mic he jumped straight up and turned mid-air 360 degrees landing at the mic on the one. I hadn't seen a guitar player do that before. I saw Cream in concert a month later and Crossroads was as perfect as the recording.
