What's all of this "poser" talk about? Being a "poser" has nothing to do with what type of guitar you choose to play. If you want to pay 3K for a guitar with a faux rusty bridge then be my guest! I'm just saying that it's not my cup of tea.

Well said. If you want to convince yourself and everyone that you're playing and own a true vintage guitar, and if it's what makes you happy, more than achieving personal development through an art named music playing, than go for it and buy the CS relic of your choice. Personaly, I don't care about the guitar you're playing. Like secretsounz said, "it's not my cup of tea" to buy fake things. I've never bought a brand new "pre-used" pair of jeans and I will never buy a brand new "pre-used" guitar. It's against my principles.

And please note that I've never wanted to insult or hurt any relic lover by saying those guitars are meant to pose. But guitar talking or not, if you are trying to fool someone (including you) by any false mean, you're posing, what makes you a poser.

@Time-Machine : You're right, I'm just an empty jar.

I don't mind the Closet Classics, but the relics are overdone.

My Les Paul was a little beat up when I bought it, but it was that way from use--not artificially--and that it was beat up a bit lowered the price. And the body & neck are still solid. It's mostly the binding and a few dents in the back.

I approve the above message :shock:

Can't say I would ever buy a pre-used looking guitar - not exactly my cup of coffee (I don't drink tea).

Harmonicajim, to me it just seems like you don't care what guitar people is playing but you are also saying that relic owners try to make people believe it's a real vintage.. I totally agree with you that if someone is trying to make people think their relic is a real vintage, then they pose. And then theres no reason to get one. I personally have just never met any1 trying to fool someone into believing their guitar was 'real' :wink:

My experiences with danish concert goers at small time gigs tells me that people wouldn't think 'wow cool a vintage guitar' but rather 'why the hell is he playing that beat up piece of $@!&' and that would count for both vintage and relics :lol:

I actually find it an advance with a relic sometimes, people think my mim deluxe player is my special guitar :lol:

But as I mentioned earlier, if relics are more expensive than NOS, I'm never getting another relic

What is your opinion of Fenders Relic guitars?

I can understand wanting to own a vintage looking guitar but I think Fender has gotten a little carried away with some the heavily reliced guitars they make. Do people really want a guitar with a rusty bridge that cost 3k? And simulated buckle rash and dings? Shouldn't a guitarist have all of that happen to their guitar because they've owned it for 20 years and the guitar has been to hell and back with them?

Your thoughts please...
hi Guys, I see you touch on the actual process of relic'ing and i would dearly love to understand the process of say checking the finish. Do you think you could give me any pointers or maybe a good website that could educate me??? I would be very grateful for any help as its hard to get info on this subject?
kind regards Chris. UK. :?:

Well, I agree with you to a certain extent. I don't have anything against relic'ing guitars, I think it's a interesting process. But I also think Fender takes it too far with their heavy relic'd stuff. The fact is, their heavy relics looks like crap, they don't look authentic at all. The closet classics and all the other stuff with light relic'ing looks pretty good though.

Agreed!

I relate to Fender relics because I am a relic. For certain replicas like the Beck they really make sense. I don't have the budget for one though.
