i wanna get a Voodoo Chile tone and try and do some Jimi for my school since the music rooms have a white copy strat with a maple fretboard and a 70's headstock. or i could do Wild Thing and im so bored from school >.> i cant go up to the music rooms for some reason they must be renovating or something. they have a Behringer amp for a new guitar amp and a bass amp a Fender Rumble 350. i saw the box and i said: "FINALLY something FENDER!" i literally stole the box to the rumble they said i could have it. i cut off the logo and put it on my door then threw the box out. im trying to copy the logo so i can make my own homemade fender guitars

As for your question, FenderGuy, I've always found that Hendrix tone is more in the guitar and pedals than the amp. For Voodoo Chile, you could crank up the gain and mid a bit, and try to use an overdrive pedal like a Tube Screamer or something similar (I use a Boss SD-1 for Voodoo Chile). I imagine the overdrive channel on the MG15FX could sound pretty dry and distortion-like whereas you want something with a little more personality and fuzz for Hendrix.

A wah pedal is very helpful (but not necessarily required), obviously.

For cleaner songs like Little Wing and Axis Bold as Love, I like to put on a little reverb and let the tone find its way out.

I'd say that on every Hendrix song I play, I have the Strat in either position 2 or 4 for rhythm stuff. I'll use the solo bridge pup setting for solos maybe, but that can sound a bit harsh.

And I'm going to leave you with the same nuggets of advice that everyone on this forum told me when I asked about Hendrix tone: The tone is in your hands, and never settle for another artist's tone.

1) The tone is in your hands: This may sound like a bunch of garbage now, but so much of the tone is literally at your fingertips than in the amp. You can use pedals for stuff like distortion and everything, but the stuff that matters, like the nuances in the notes, those are all happening where your fingers meet the fretboard and nowhere else. Really try to coax the tone out of your hands more than anywhere else. This won't happen right away, but work at it over time and you'll get it.

2) Never settle for another artist's tone: I used to think "If I'm gonna play Hendrix, I have to do it justice, I need his tone." Then everyone here told me they like to do their own versions of almost all the songs they play (with only a few people disagreeing). And at first I was like "No! Hendrix is a god! I must do him justice!" But lets be honest. If I had the same guitar that Hendrix played at Isle of Wight and the same handwired fuzz face and everything, I still couldn't do him justice. This isn't supposed to discourage you, but empower you.

Look around for interesting tones and NEVER STOP LOOKING. If you find a tone similar to the album version of whatever song you play, thats great! But then look for a cooler tone to play the song with. Make it your own. That's what advances you as a guitar player, and that's what Hendrix would want. Listen to live recordings and bootlegs. He was always experimenting and playing the same song different ways each time. You'd never hear him play a song as if it was straight off the album. By finding your own way with his music, you're doing so much more than if you were to just play it straight off the songbook.
