I was just watching some videos and the pros walk all around and stuff and you never see them trailing a cable to an amp or pedal board or anything.
How does this work? Is it some sort of wireless system? If so, how much are those and where can I get one?

yep...wireless.They can be very expensive for quality units.I am pretty sure all the major music chains and even small mom and pop stores have or can order whatever you need.

Some people can wear a cable with more style than others.

Yes, expensive for a good one. The ones under about $250 are awful and not all of them over $300 are good either. You can spend about as much as you want to on one.

Most of these guys have state-of-the-art wireless systems that they go into. For the few who do use cables most of the wires are run under the stage via trapdoors and access panels so that the stage contains fewer trip hazards.

Most wireless systems, either for audio presentations like PAs or for music are designed to operate around the cell phone frequency band, so interference can be a problem.

These systems operate on very low power so that they do not travel far, but that can also limit available signal strength at the receiver.

Cables have a cleaner sound delivery, but wireless is more convenient for the musicians and the roadies.

I enjoy the early footage of AC/DC when Angus is running all over the place trailing 50' of guitar cord - even had it when he was doing the circles on the ground. There was usually a roadie who tried to stay out of the picture who ran around grabbing extra cord and pulling it back out of sight and out of the way.

The good old (1966) days...

You weren't nothin' if you didn't have a nice long curly cord!

Wireless systems and rack mounted computerized effects. Pedals and pedal boards are mainly for us "po folks" these days. :D

I never had that much trouble with mine - of course, I wasn't big on running around the stage or doing acrobatics - I was too busy watching my fingers.

Yeah, I get anxious about equipment running on batteries. Once before a gig I actually had to steal a pack and got caught... Wire-less systems for the vocalist seem like a great idea. I like a nice, top of-the-line cable to connect the instruments. I wonder how you fix a problem with the wireless system once you are on stage and your sound is intermittent? Scary stuff!

I'll take quality cords anyday, but I'm no star. :D but not every pro uses a wireless system...just like every pro is not on the big stage.

If I'm on a cramped stage, I'll use a Vox curly cord. On bigger stages, I use a G series Line 6 digital wireless.
