Most of the movies I've bought in the last ten years or so are the older "good" flicks that have only recently been released on DVD. I like the old airplane movies of the '40s and '50s.

¨Easy is right. Right is Easy.¨ Chuang Tzu.

This is why we are in such a mess. Make it so complex that no one will be liable. Make the law so confusing that we can get away with anything. Are we having fun yet?

I keep plenty of 010 gauge string sets in the fridge. Now THAT´s planning ahead!

Gibson's CEO was just on Beck's show this afternoon -- what Henry had to say about this miscarriage of justice is truly frightening. The entire Gibson operation may soon be forced off-shore, idling some 1800 Americans in three states.

That is why it is SO important we get those idiots OUT of the White House...the business of America is business, so get out of their way and let them do what they do better than most everyone else out there. If they want the economy to get better, get out of business' way...this is another prime example of what NOT TO DO!

In my nearly six decades on this rock I have never seen federal muscle flexed in such an arbitrary and capricious manner by an administration so opposed to legal business and lawful commerce.

I must admit that was a very bad public/press statement. He has pretty much instilled fear into the distributers, dealers and customers about owning a Gibson. Also, reading a sheet of paper that was produced internally. Not a written statement nor speech- just a paper with notes that pretty much means nothing.

So his argument is that he has done no wrong with regard to the importation of the said woods, and that a requirement is that the wood must be fully worked prior to shipment from India. The issue is, once a worker begins work on the wood in the USA, it is in violation of the law, right?

So does the fact that the wood has to be sanded and shaped, not to mention cut prior to fitting frets and binding, radiused in the factory at Gibson plant, make it that they have broken the Lacey Agreement? I would say that ALL manufacturers would be guilty of. However, the whole debacle is amusing :?

I read all of the posts and wasn't amused. I am saddened that this happened in America, but then I was sad when the jury acquitted O.J.. It seems as if the publics ability to be thoughtful has been compromised and therefore cannot be reasoned with. ie Al Gore saying the only non-racists are environmentalists and he won't have it any other way.

"Gibson's CEO was just on Beck's show this afternoon...the entire Gibson operation may soon be forced off-shore, idling some 1800 Americans in three states."

Gibson's been wanting to move offshore for years. They regretted not following Fender's approach when they saw that buyers accepted Japanese, Mexican, Korean, etc "Fenders" and gave Fender a bigger profit margin, and they regretted painting themselves into a corner by having repeatedly said that Gibson guitars would always be USA only.

First they tested the waters a few years ago by floating the rumors that their new Epi plant in China was also building necks for the lower-end USA Gibsons. They were hoping for an "eh, who cares, every company does that -- they should go ahead and start a full Gibson-branded import line like the MIM's and MIJ's so we could have the open-book headstock on affordable Gibsons" response. Then they could go ahead and actually start making Gibsons in China. But the internet outrage convinced them that Gibson fans would feel betrayed and angry if they voluntarily moved offshore.

So they're looking for a way to be "forced" to move offshore, so that "the gov't" is the demon and they're a "proud American company" just doing what they have to do to survive. It's likely Henry J intentionally ordered his wood buyers to deal with a shady importer and then tipped off the DOJ himself. The media will sell the idea that it's "patriotic" to buy Chinese Gibsons to support the "underdog USA company" as it "battles the oppressive gov't".

All things being equal (exact same components and quality control) I don't particularly care where an intrument is made. It's a shame that between Government interference, stuborn Management, and greedy Unions, manufacturing jobs all over the USA are being moved overseas. Everyone involved needs to open their eyes.
