I heard that Ritchie Blackmore has gone a different way. They said he will not do any interveiws that has to do with his rock past. He now has a band with his wife doing traditional Renaissance music.

How high are you? Seriously.

The first Blackmores's Night was released in 1997.

That's all he's done since then. Wow. You are out of the loop dude.

Having just released an album called "Machine Head", Deep Purple must be ticked over this. ;)

I had no idea what Blackmore has done for a few decades.

I thought for a moment there, you were going to tell us our Ritchie had turned.
No, seriously. After all this time, I haven't actually heard any of his acoustic stuff.

Can't blame the guy, I mean how much more can you take of moronic requests for "Smoke on the Water "or " Woman from Tokyo ".

Musicians are supposed to evolve, if you want note for note, just buy the CD or dld it from I-tunes and stay home.....

Or better yet, do some searching in Renaissance, Medieval and Baroque musical compositions, you may be surprised by the similarities in rhythmic patterns...

You have to give the guy credit. Regardless of whether you like his playing/music or not, he is a bonafide guitar idol, he was in multiple super groups, none of his peers have a bad word to say about his playing, everyone knows quite a few of his tunes and can identify many more just by hearing the first couple of notes; he's filthy rich, has a hot, young (in comparison) wife and is literally living a fantasy lifestyle of his and her own choosing along with their music and on top of it all, have a large following. And let's not forget, he has a Signature Strat to boot. I think its safe to say, regardless of direction, he's done pretty damn good for himself and is enjoying life to the fullest. As to being moody, frankly, I wouldn't call it that at all. Rather, he has a set way of thinking along with an incredibly low threshold for BS at large where he has no compunctions about letting whomever know it and acting upon it whenever and wherever.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

I guess Ritchie is a monster of sorts (although if you want to call it a low BS threshold thats fine by me). I've been a fan since somebody lent me Made in Japan, inthe mid 70s and it turned my brain inside out.

I love his "renaissance" music stuff and have the Blackmore's Night albums. It's all good but some of it is fantastic - if you want to know what he's all about these days, check out tracks on Youtube like "Under a Violet Moon", "Katherine Howard's Fate", "Past Time With Good Company" and my favourite "Ghost of a Rose", based on the Elgar Cello Concerto. His wife is a real sweetie with great charisma and a very pure (if limited) voice and she puts on a great show. The only person I've ever seen who can get away with taking the p*** out of Ritchie on stage (maybe he gives her hell after the show ). I've seen them on every one of their UK tours - and will be there again in October.

Strictly speaking, it's not all Renaissance music at all. He does stretch the form and some of it is Rainbow-esque - albeit with an acoustic guitar. Usually he does strap on his electric for a few numbers, blows the dust of his Engl amp and we get a reminder of his astonishing prowess as a lead guitarist playing some incredible Eastern European and Gypsy scales and modes. He continues to move ever further far away from his Purple heavy blues roots.

I had a listen to a few and it sounds good. You have to give him credit, he could be making some real money playing the commercial stuff but has chosen to play what he wants to.

There have been many great guitarists but he was one a handful who left behind legendary signature solos.

Another was Terry Kath.
