the 50s was a good decade for guitarists like Buddy Holly or Eddie Cochran.

For me, it has to be the 60's. Marvin and then Clapton, Beck, Page, Hendrix, Townshend, Blackmore, Allman, etc etc etc. It was a wonderful era and these guys really set the ball rolling.

I gotta go with the 60s. So much about 60s music in general was revolutionary. Although I think the early 70s had a lot of good music as well.

This has always been one of those topics that I keep revisiting. I once thought that nothing would ever be as great as the sixties and I still dearly love that era...got my first guitar then!!! BUT the more I got into playing and chasing down those influences of the influences I got really conflicted. Then the seventies happened things got faster and heavier and Jazz really caught my attention (thanks to a love of the blues)and... well more soul searching...and Ska, Rock Steady, and Reggae soothed it a bit. I found through most of the eighties I clung to a lot of nostalgia for the previous three decades of music, but have to admit the sound systems got a lot better at live venues, and after awhile found some excellent eighties bands also......more later on the ninties :!:

I go along with Brother Dave whole heartedly-in the 60s Jimi turned the guitar world on its ear and set it off into a new direction and realm he was definitely the Paganini of our time.

Absolutely the '60s -- Beatles, Jimi, Cream, Zep, surf, psychedelia, Disraeli Gears, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, Pet Sounds . . .

I could go on but I won't.

Not just the Les Paul Guitar.
Les Paul the musician, innovator and inventor. The man invented sound on sound recording.
This guy. How many people can even today play like him? Even Jeff Beck has a serious time replicating his licks. It's a tie for me between the 50's and 60's.
