One of the other forum members sent me an email today about a JCM 800 1960 A Marshall cabinet recently re-Tolexed and regrilled for $375.The clincher is that it has Eminence speakers so he most likely wouldn't get that lovely gut punching drive that Celestions give.I advised him to steer clear unless it had Patriots or better in it or if he intended to put vintage 30's or G 12 L 25's etc. in it.Did I advise him right?Something tells me I did advise him right.

That's what I was thinking too guys-once it lost the Celestions it stopped being a Marshall.I have G-12-L-25s in my 1960 B cab and when I run my JCM 800 2204 through it,it's Ambrosia for the ears.I also use an MG-4/12 cab with the offshore Celestions that although not great speakers are most likely better than Eminence and have a great high end response to counter the punch of the 1960 cab.

Ah yes, I agree with the census.

Bit of a side question, is there much of a difference between the G12M and the 25w Greenbacks? I am interested in getting a 1987x Head, but which cabinet would you guys recommend? I am looking at either the 1960a-x or 1960tv. Thanks

The 1960AX cab is the one that is supposed to be paired with the 1987 X head according to "The History Of Marshall" book, and it was loaded with Classic 25s.I use a 1960 B cab with G-12-L-25s with my 50W 2204 JCM-800 and they break up just right when the amp is turned past 6.

Thanks guiltslinger, that must sound beautiful. Apparently upon a quick google search the 1960TV actually isn't a reissue at all. I believe they both hold the same speakers, anyway, so the AX is sounding like the way to go.

I have a 1960-TV from 1997 that I bought used...it has Weber Blue Dogs and Silver Bells in a X-pattern. I use it with the '71 Marshall Superlead...no complaints here!
