I think the guys from the '50s and '60s are "rock 'n' roll." Joan Jett is '80s pop rock, however, for sure.
Yknow what i mean man, lets not get technical with labels man, besides she doesnt give a damn bout her reputation

Joan Jett started off as a rock singer and honed her voice to a cutting edge rawness that's well suited for rock.Pat Benatar was originally an opera singer and that trained operatic control shows through in her vocals today, not that that's a bad thing because I like each one of them equally, they are both fabulously gifted singers.I agree too that Ann and Nancy Wilson also are worthy of a mention.

I like Joan Jett's attitude, but Benatar has plenty of attitude of her own plus the pipes. She also had her husband on lead guitar who wrote a lot of the hits. Check out his live solo. I think it is very impressive.

I like Pat because I saw her before Joan but then who doesn't like Joan.IMHO YMMV.

I thought Pat Benetar had a more pop voice. Joan Jett was sexier and her music seems to have endured longer. How about Lita Ford? Anyone remember her?

Yep, I remember Lita. Joan Jett for me too. Pat Benatar rode in on that pop train. A better question would be Joan Jett or Suzi Quatro. I saw Suzi in the 70's when she opened for Alice Cooper's Welcome To My Nightmare tour. She tore the house down.

Hence why a Rock band with a Female front person is so much more enjoyable..
Can we add in Blondie....The Motels....Divinyls.... Edible Red ( NYC band ).....Pretenders...Mostly Autumn....Jefferson Starship/Airplane.....Kim Falcon ( does she front a band )....Carolyn Wonderland...as well as a rather large list of other top quality female singerplayer fronted Blues and R/B bands.....Oh Yeahhhh

Cannot forget the one and only.....Bonnie Raitt....Now that is a big pair of shoes to fill and aspire to if you are a young up an coming band.

Or if you really want Grunge, long before the term was even bandied about

A historical look into who played At "Max's Kansas City " (NYC) will feature quite a stellar ( at time's ) list some well notorious long before the curtain went up.
