I found that I can't listen to music when I have to think carefully. Repetitive tasks or similar stuff I like to have music playing quietly though. I find that less distracting than all of the people talking on the phone (and to each other) around me.

I found that listening to music in the office kept me calm in some stressful situations. Other times it became part of the background and I'd have to turn it off to concentrate. In my last job, I had to share my office with a cellmate. I couldn't listen and I hated it.

I would be at the nut house if I couldn't have music at work (where I am right now ). My task are so repetitive and I also spend alot of time sitting on my $@! and waiting for machines to finish with samples.
