I have both a telecaster and an SG, so I hope I'm pretty qualified to give you some good advice. Also, though my SG doesn't have P90s, it does have single coils, which, yes, are not the same, but they are much closer than hum buckers.

I love both of my guitars. Plain and simple. What do you want to do? What kind of a guitar do you want it to be? My SG is lighter than my Telecaster. Telecasters (IMO) look better with a little wear on it, so if you plan on keeping it, which you should be, keep that in mind. The SG is a tone machine. Though mine is a more expensive model, and thus more likely prone to excellent sustain (through better tone wood/hardware-that is if there's any real difference which I don't think there is). The telecaster has that telecaster bite and twang. There's nothing like it. The SG just has that rock and roll soul. Both of them are beauuuutiful guitars.

Honestly, it's all up to you. You should definitely play them at a shop, but if you can't, go with what you will want to keep forever. Keep in mind the SG doesn't have the bolt on neck that the tele does. That way, if the neck snaps, you can't just replace it. But don't let that keep you from a great guitar, either.

If it were me I would get the tele unless you were getting the 61 RI SG.

I'd go with the Tele. After you get used to those jumbo frets,
you'll really like the clean big, bends that you'll be able to do.

Really? I wouldn't call it a cliche. I'd call it a tool to get the job done. Same thing with the Tele. If the SG is a cliche, what's a Strat or LP?
