I was traveling this weekend and was a couple of hundred miles from home and stopped in at Guitar Center this weekend. I found a used Blues Junior for $240. I was happy! The outside had a few scratches and nicks but it sounded great. I went to pay for it and got the bad news. They could not sell it to me until the 26th (it was the 20th). I offered to pay for the amp then and there and have them ship it to me on the 26th, but no dice. I had to come back on the 26th to buy it because it was standard policy to make sure that it wasn't stolen by the person that sold it to them.

Man was I disappointed! The price was nice but not worth the round trip drive to go back and get it. I guess that I will just wait until my birthday and have my wife get me a new one as a present. It would have been nice though......

That's SOP for all of the GC's in Arizona as well......just another bureaucratic PITFA.

That stinks! I wonder why they would put something on the floor, with a price, and yet it's not for sale. :?

Can you possibly order that same amp online? I believe that you can have it shipped to a GC near you for pickup. Check the used gear section on the GC site for the store that has the amp.

Sounds like a bate and switch deal to me. other wise if it wasn't for sale why was it on the floor? Maybe some employee had his eye on that one.

If the Amp was not for sale until the 26th, then it shouldn't be out on the floor. Bad for business and puts a doubt in the customer as to why they will not sell a piece of equipment to a paying customer.

As I posted earlier, I was greatly disappointed. And the thought did occur to me that someone there was keeping it for themselves  . I have seen several other used ones on line in the $320-$399 price range. At that price, I will with most probability end up buying a new Blues Junior pretty soon. I looked at a Hot Rod Deluxe while I was there and I liked the tone with it but it seemed like too much amp for my little 15' by 15' practice room.

I know this sounds terrible, BUT If the guy was trying to keep it for himself, I hope it blows up and takes his best guitar with it.

I ran into the same thing the other day with a guitar. It was explained to me that it was the law to do that. The tag did say that the guitar was on hold until Sept 4th. BUT they did allow me to put it on layaway. So I did it. It's not as big of a deal to me. Guitar center is a close drive.

I have 2-weeks left for it to become available. I'll keep you posted on it when I have it in hand. I don't wanna say anything about what it is until I actually have it in hand and can post some pics.. Because like it goes on here, if you don't have pics, it didn't happen.

+100, Shimmi

Agree. That sucks. It shouldn't go on the floor until/unless it's certain that the sale was legit. Lousy policy. Plenty of B. Jr's out there used and new. You'll find one.

Further, my understanding is that the employees work on commission and understandably are in a nasty mood, since sales are rare. They never have a new one in the back and they want you to buy the floor model that's been abused on weekends by "shoppers" for a price that's higher than many online options (and online you get a brand new one that's never been touched since it left the factory--it's in Fender's original box) and often w/ no tax and free shipping to boot.

You are oh so right about them wanting you to pay full price for a "beat up" new guitar that has been there for a while. My wife paid full price for my first guitar, a new Gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus in 2009. When I took it out of the case, the nut was obviously damaged. We took it back and they told me that they would ship me a new one immediately. Three days later the replacement arrived. It was missing all of the knobs but one and was badly scratched and dinged so back it went. The next one arrived and it was almost as bad(plus there was what smelled like vomit in the case). Back it went. Finally, I was shipped what my wife paid for, a brand new undamaged LP. After that, I always ask if there is a new one still in the box and they always say no there is not.

Where I live if you live close to GC you probubly live in a shack or under a bridge, No not really but you may have a Simolian women crash into you in her mini van. Or she may pull out in front of you and then you crash into her. It's a dark blue mini van so watch out.
If you are dissapointed with Gc well then hop on the horse cart with the rest of us.

When PRS came out with their new 2011 Santana SE model I had to go check one out. Although I bought my first one from ebay, I really wanted to “feel out” the guitar before I would buy one. I went to a couple GCs and Sam Ash stores since here in So Cal there are quite a few within a mediocre drive (less than 100 miles). Although on line they showed in stock only one SA had one. What a disappointment, the setup sucked, stings were high and the tune was not even close. I checked it out, looked it over good and then asked if they had any other in stock. “Nope, not till we sell that one”

I shopped around on line and found that http://www.WildWestGuitars.com had the guitar (4 of them) and was in Riverside, about 75 miles away. Yah, this may be a shameless plug for them but man o man, what a place to go and try out some guitars. Friendly people, give you a tour of the place (rooms full of guitars by brands, Fender, Gibson, PRS and bass guitars + more) and a full stage that they have concerts for members. After having been shown the place, we were handed a cable and a “go have fun” with a smile.
Wow, what a way to spend a Saturday morning! Quality guitars and loads of high end amps to play with. I did buy the SE I wanted and for a very fair price.

GC and SA are convenient to go to but if you had a great store like WWGuitar you could go to, I’d drive the extra miles to go check them out.

I had a similar experience happen to me once at Walmart. I went computer shoping a few weeks before Thanksgiving and found a fantastic deal on a Dell Laptop at the local Walmart. When I tried to buy it I was was told that the laptop was actually a Black Friday special put out by mistake and that they could not sell it to me (at either the sale price OR the regular price). I asked to talk to the manager, who happened to be a guy I went to high school with. He tried pulling some strings for me but was unable to get permission to sell me the computer. Said I'd have to come back the day after Thanksgiving for the sale.

Seems ridiculous that you can walk into a store, see an item on display and then not be allowed to buy it! Another good reason, I suppose, to shop at Mom 'n' Pop stores, whenever possible.
