Ok, first off, let me say that I am a plumber and as we are getting close to the winterizing season I have been thinking about getting some noise canceling headphones for when I'm blowing out a house. Last year the air coming out of the fixtures just killed my ears by the end of the day.
Now, my roommate has a new girl and I'm tired of hearing them get it on at 5am. Yeah I know, " Hemi, Why don't you get a girl and make some noise of you're own?" That would be great! but I'm single right now and in the meantime, I want to get some headphones anyway. So, I don't want to pay 300 bucks for some Bose HPs, I would really appreciate some input/advice on a good set.

If you are a plumber why do you have roommates? Their are so many differnet headphones out their from $20 to $3000 I would go to Musicians Friend and read the reviews and see what fits your wants I have Shure headphones that I like and a have audiotechnica that I like too but everyone is different

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD280's ($100) and a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M10's ($30). Both will work to drown-out late night roommate aerobics. I like the Sennheisers better for fit and comfort, but they are heavier and the coil cord can be in the way when playing. The Audio-Technicas are obviously cheaper but they aren't too bad for the price.

As far as being useful on your job. I think both of these are going to be way too big, heavy and in the way. You might want to look into ear plug headphones like these http://www.gemplers.com/product/151874/ ... e-Earplugs
Looks like a good idea to me but the reviews of it are poor.

BTW, Great thread title!

I know what you're saying. It's no fun to sit down to play with your ears ringing from work. I use ear plugs at work and they are not very comfortable. I would love to find something to cancel noise that was comfortable enough to work and sleep in. I have a messed up ear so anything that plugs in the ear is not comfortable for mare than 30 min.

Unfortunately I'm an employee, not the boss and rent ain't cheap out here in the Hamptons.
I'm going to look into the Audio-Technicas, they've got good reviews on Amazon.

I remember most spectacular incident of being shot down vividly. I had met a girl a few days prior (friend of a friend) and went up to her office with a bouquet of flowers. I asked her out and she flat-out said, "Nope, not interested." In those exact words.
"Well, enjoy the flowers anyway. Take care!"
As I walked out the door, I overheard her co-workers say, "What's wrong with you, he was cute and he's obviously romantic..." Nonetheless, she never did call me.
This was two years before I married the Lady Armadillo.

Nineteen years later, I happened to be working at a hospital, and one of the secretaries in ICU said, "I know you..."
Eventually, we figured out she was the mother of the girl who shot me down. She knew me from a picture her daughter's friend (who introduced us) showed her (I haven't changed that much since those days, just a few pounds heavier and an inch more forehead). The mother said, "I wished she would have said she'd go out with you; She ended up married to some jerk and she's now an alcoholic and can't seem to get out of her own way..."

I thought, "If she's an alcoholic and a loser, she would have probably been one whether she married that guy or not; she might have dragged me down into the Hades that is her life...by her shooting me down, I probably got saved a lot of heartache!"

So sometimes being shot down is a blessing--your pride may be cracked, but your life isn't damaged as much as it could have been.

As Garth Brooks sang some time ago, "Sometimes God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers."

thanx for giving me a much needed smile.
as far as headphones, i use the dreaded in-ear type since my hearing is already damaged from shooting guns without any ear protection. i enjoy the sound of the woods and really don't have an opportunity to slip in ear plugs when a target presents itself.
as far as the 5am thingy, maybe you should strum some nice love songs for them or even write one. trust me here hemi. you will find a nice lady if that is what you want. i am the biggest loser on the planet and i have a beautiful wife. it seems she is more impressed with my heart than anything else and i'll take that.
