Any recommendations? I have used the Amazing Slow Downer, but am looking for something that might have better sound quality. Are there any free programs?

Audacity (free) will slow the tempo, but not the pitch.

Good luck!

I use audacity too. Select a part (or all) of your track and on the Effect menu, select Change Tempo and you're set.

But can you keep the pitch the same with Audacity?

I use Goldwave.

The program is about forty bucks but they offer a free shareware "test drive".

It'll strip vocals off, slow down or accelerate a passage (without changing the key), change the key (without slowing down or speeding up the passage), add several different reverb and echo effects, add compression or expansion, play the track backwards (great for proponents of the "Paul is dead" theory), and has both graphic and parametric equalization. I use it primarily to re-master old recordings.

Man,way back when I was learning I used to slow my 33 1/3 albums down to 16 on the turntable,it changed the pitch but I knew what key to play in.
I might look into some of this stuff...maybe get into the 21st century....I don't even have a turntable anymore.

Yes you can. The "Change Tempo" tool alters everything so it sounds normal, just slowed down or sped up. You can speed it up or slow it down without compensating for the pitch with "Change Speed" and you can alter just the pitch with "Change Pitch"

I tried Audacity but found it way too complicated.

Amazing Slow Downer, $20.
