I prefer heavy guage Dunlop Tortex picks - the blue ones.

Do you ever mix it up, or do you stick with one pick thickness all the time?

I know this is totally boring and pointless, but I was just curious.

Dunlop Ultex, .72 and 1.0 mm, standard shape or the Sharps, depending on which guitar and what I'm playing. Mostly the 1.0 standards.

Also, this is not boring or pointless. Your pick does more to affect your string tone than all the dithering over rosewood or maple on the entire Internet put together.

A definite +1 on that. The pick is a very important piece of kit.
I use V-picks and all shapes and sizes too, depending on the tone and style I'm looking for.

After years using Black Dunlop Jazz III, I've changed to Red Dunlop Jazz III a few weeks ago.

I've always thougth that there was no difference than the color, but Red ones are slightly softer than Black ones, and there's a little, subtle sound difference to me, and to my flatmate (who's not a musician nor a music lover) too. And they feel better when playing (I don't know why but...).

So, I don't know if Jazz III's gauge... maybe thick?

I selected 'other' ...only because it depends on many variables.

Fender Thick.

Well, this IS a Fender forum you know...

Seriously, I have used Fender Thick picks for as long as I can remember. I have dozens and dozens of them all over the place. Heck, I carry one in my pocket at all times, 'cause you never know when you'll need one! 8)

I like the med-lite Dunlop Gel picks (the green ones). They're substantial enough to really dig in to the strings, but they're still flexible so they're comfortable to me to use. I will also use orange Tortex picks if necessary, but I have dozens of the green gels.

I have used Dunlop .73 mm nylon since they first came out. When I switched to the nylon picks I was surprised what a difference the improved string control and feel made to my playing.Pick, size, shape and material makes a vast difference in one's playing.

I've used Fender 351 Mediums for decades....I also swap up with Fender heavy 351s...today I bought a couple of V picks,so far I like them, but they are pricey. :D
Picks affect tone and they're fun to try different ones for different songs...it's something I can hear.

I'm a bit surprised that so many use a thick pick. I changed from a large triangle 1.5 to a smaller .73 at the suggestion of my teacher. I didn't think I could break the need for a substantial pick in my fingers but I got used to it pretty fast. Now I feel that I don't need one particular pick. I have some V picks, but the thick ones sound really dull.
