In person, not online. Name who and what the experience was like.

Here are mine:

1. Michael Hedges:

Met twice. First time, I noticed that the green room at Blues Alley in D.C. was just down the hall from the public bathroom, so I waited in the hallway during the encore. He invited me and my friends into the green room. Very personable and friendly and just a guy wanting to chat. Said it was hard for him to calm down after performances. His acoustic was leaning against the wall and boy was that fingerboard filthy. Creative play I guess comes from playing all the time and having the axe at hand.

Second time, I walked up onstage and said hello and I asked him if it was ok for me to play his song "Because its there" live at my own gigs, and he said sure, and that he always played Beatles tunes without asking for permission. Same friendly guy.

Too bad he died so young.

2. Kazuhito Yamashita:
Met backstage after seeing his classical guitar recital of Pictures at an Exhibition. Didn't speak English, so had to talk thru translator. Just said hello and asked him how he played the ending of The Gnome. He said he did play it on the recording live without overdubs or two tracks of playing and I could slow the recording down to hear it better to help me hear how he did it.

My guitar teacher wanted to demonstrate his continuous rasqueado technique to him, as Kazuhito didn't really use one like it and could add it to his bag of tricks. But Kazuhito said his guitar was tired and didn't want to bring it out to see the technique.
Kazuhito had some grotesque looking fingernails. They looked like artificial big nails that were epoxied on or something.

3. Fabulous Thunderbirds:
Backstage BBQ at Merriweather Post in Columbia, MD after Seeger concert. Friendly guys to chat with. Someone asked Jimmy Vaughan, or the singer (can't remember which) how they got all those girls to be in the Wrap it up video. He said they were paid and laughed.

4. Doug Lewis. Guitarist of late '60's band Peppermint Rainbow ("Will you be staying after Sunday" hit):
Super friendly and is a guitar repairman now. Interesting guy to talk to about late '60's rock scene, and about Fender axes, of course. His group charted at 32 I think with the aforementioned song. He's an authorized Fender service guy now.

5. Singer for Cinderella - Forgot his name. I went up to the local Roy Rogers and led him back to my boss's place, where he tried out about 25 celestion (I think) speakers and bought alot of them. He had a badly cracked up gold top Les Paul he used. Very friendly, and even helped load up all the speakers into his Cherokee when he left. Pleasant guy.

6. David Byrne - came into the record store I worked at in the late '80's in the morning. Noone was there but me, and the manager in the back office who was a fan of his. Very quiet. His Mom did most of the talking about how he was better off at the LRS than the mall, where he would have been swarmed. Signed some register paper for me. Bought some cassettes, but I can't remember what they were.

My Bucket List:

Jack Casady (I would like to go to his workshops sometime at the Fur Peace Ranch).

I have met a few :D

Paul Stanley (Rhythym Guitarist of KISS)

Most friendly KISS member. I met him on my 13th birthday. Very nice and social. Asked me alot of questions, I asked him a few. Really is a nice man.

Eric Singer (Current Drummer for KISS)
This guy is crazy. Talks a mile a minute. During the signing session I had with him, we were only allowed two items for signatures but he signed everything I had on. He is quick witted and just flat out funny. He fits the cat persona extremely well.

Tommy Thayer (Lead Guitarist of KISS)
He is cool as ice. The way he cooly said "I like your Shock Me shirt kid" was unforgettable. The guy not only has sick guitar skills but he is just cool as ice. He is just so awesome.

Gene Simmons (Bassist of KISS)
Intimidating. Only word to describe it. He was in his own mindset at that time you could tell. Your standing next to one of the most succesful buisnessmen and rock stars of all time. He is just intimidating and somewhat scary with those 8 inch platforms.

Rick Springfield (80's pop star)
Don't have much to say about him. My mom went to a book signing of his and I merely sat on the sidelines. He did say to me, "Nice shirt man." I was wearing a KISS tee. At least we know he has good taste in music.

Those are all I have met but it is my goal in life to meet Ace Frehley....this must be accomplished!! 8)

One of mine goes way back to the early 60's. Bobbie V's Aunt and Uncle lived across the street from me and when he came to town, Tacoma,WA. I got to visit and hang with him. Never worked with him just a fue visits. He was a normal kid/nice guy. He got his big break "The Night The Music Died" He was asked to go on that next night I Believe. I remember his car broke down and was left at his aunts house for about 6 months. it was a "57 Chevy Nomad". When he came back to get it I helped him get it going. I think his latest hit was "Rubber Ball". That was another life, WOW.
Around the same time once in a while I would rub shoulders with The Ventures & The Fabulous Whalers, I said Fabulous because another band in Seattle started calling themselves the whaler's so the original band picked up the word Fabulous and added it to there name. I remember a big commotion over that, but don't remember how it came out. Thats enough of that, It makes me feel OLD to remember that stuff. :)

Chick Corea - I was his interpreter when he came to do a TV show I was working on in Israel...we sat at the piano together!
Luther Dickinson - hanging outside Revolution Live before the North Mississippi Allstars show there. Also Chris Chew, their bassist.
Steve Chapin, Harry's brother...driving a cab in NYC many, many years ago.

Not yet famous but getting there slowly...Dan Kalisher, recently lead guitarist for Matthew Morrison, star of Glee. Before that, lead guitarist on the Drake Bell world tour. My son's and my first guitar teacher.

Just remembered...Pat DiNizio of the Smithereens

Paul Carrack - Ace, Mike and the Mechanics. We're good friends with his brother John and have stayed with him in England. Both Paul and John are the best of people. John has a serious guitar buying addiction and I blame him for some of my GAS problems.
I could add Billy Burnett - He was lead guitar for Fleetwood Mac for a short period. I engineered demo's for him years ago and did several live recordings of his gigs at Topanga Corral and Sundance Saloon. Yea, howdy, those were good days.

Countless Bluesmen, John Lee Hooker, David Honey Edwards, Luther Allison, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Lonnie and Ronnie Brooks, Buddy Guy, Keb Mo and many, many others over the years, Les Paul and just last weekend I finally got to meet David Bromberg at a private party I attended. The host had seven bands and Bromberg was sitting in with "The Angel Band". They were great. The three lady vocalists were outstanding. I believe Bromberg was a session man on their CD. Funny thing is, as a professional photographer, I usually never have my photo taken with any of them. I feel as though I'm intruding. Weird stuff huh? But when they're on stage, it's a whole different ball game. They know I'm photographing them sometimes for publication and it's all good and I'll talk to them afterwords.

Leslie West, Felix Pappalardi, Corky Laing -- Mountain (post-concert bash, Sacramento Inn)

Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker -- Cream (brief post-concert handshake, Sacramento Auditorium)

Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons -- The Doobie Brothers (post-concert bash)

Paul Goddard, Dean Daughtry -- Atlanta Rhythm Section (lengthy conversation at a Doraville, Georgia hobby shop)

Sold a '68 Bandmaster head to Rick Zander (brother of Cheap Trick's Robin)

I've only met two guitarists, back in the 80's...

Elliott Easton (The Cars) - I bumped into him in a music store in Boston, MA back when I was stationed there in the US Coast Guard. I talked to him for a while and he was a cool guy and very down to earth.

George Thorogood - My wife and I won front row tickets (along with 2 backstage passes) to his show in Buffalo, NY (also while I was in the Coast Guard). He was hilarious and really really cool, but, um...sorry to say... he was soooooo drunk by the time we got ushered backstage to meet him!

Oh I almost forgot, this is for the Geezers. In the mid 80's My girlfriend knew the sound man for The Everly Brothers" and he got us in so we could hang out at the soundboard. They were playing at a local place called the Valley Forge Music Fair. The place had a rotating stage. Before the show, we got to get on the tour bus, met Albert Lee who was in their band at the time and hung out with Phil Everly at the bar at the local Stouffers Restaurant. Phil was one of the pallbearers at Buddy Holly's funeral.

Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Al Kooper, Bootsy Collins and George Clinton of Parliment, Noel "Paul" Stookey, George Shearing, Joe Puerta, Christopher North and Burleigh Drummond of Ambrosia, Barbara Mandrell, David Ossman of Firesign Theater, comedian David Brenner... a few more that don't really count because we didn't converse beyond, "Wow, you're great..."

Here in the Music City I've met so many famous people and most all were just brief encounters.
Some highlites, probably the most well known person I've ever met was Johnny Cash,I used to sack his groceries when I was a teenager in Hendersonville,Tn,where we lived, that was in the late '60's when he had his national TV show, and he was an impressive figure to say the least....a very brief meeting was Roy Orbison, who lived next door to Johnny...and when I think of him,I remember the day two of his sons died in a fire that burned his house to the ground. :cry
Two of my favorites...Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts...another cool guy was Waylon Jennings, one of my best friends Billy Ray Reynolds, introduced me to all of them,he was in Waylon's band and wrote music with Gregg and Dickey.
And in talking about them I have to mention Warren Haynes,Allen Woody,Derek Trucks,Jack Pearson,Jaimoe and Butch Trucks, all of the Allman Brothers Band....my favorite band of all time.
One of the friendliest was Michael McDonald of the Doobies...and two that were R&R pioneers J.I.Allison,and Joe B. Mauldin,Buddy Holly's drummer and bass player...they were there in the beginning.
Many others, some nice and some arrogant...I always hate to meet somebody who thinks they're better than everyone else.
