Digression ...
Mr Nylon, thanks for the compliment. My husband's hobby is photography, and he has lots of toys. So I asked him to take some pix that I could post.

My basses are active by accident, not intentional choice. I was looking for a 5-string bass and the Ibanez fit the bill. I was looking for a somewhat smaller bass & the Fender seemed like a good value. So now I don't know no better. :D

Live & learn!

You can do plenty with that rig.

Indeed!

It makes my paltry collection of gear look for all the world like just so much pawn-shop fodder.

You should be shooting in manual. You'll have much more control the the depth of field and the whole mood of the photo. My Strat photo was shot with a 4x5 camera with Schneider optics and Speedotron Black Line studio flash and 48" softboxes on 4x5 Fuji Transparency Film. You can use a much simpler setup with bounce flash and foam core. As I said before and for everyone who thinks I just come here to bash Fender gear, the Strat is mine and and the Twin was recently sold.

Mr. Nylon, Nice light! Something I would do just for the composition is to move the vase so it's not competing with the headstock, and straighten the guitar a little. I'd go to aperture priority, make sure the guitar is in focus (I'd go manual focus). I'd try to get a little more distance from that cabinet and try to get a little softer depth of field. The odd thing I'm noticing is the bottom of the guitar and the floor is a little soft. Could be a smudge on the lens or the lens is wide open and is just soft around the edges. It could also be that you may be right at the edge of the lenses minimum focusing distance. It's funny, the cabinet just seems a little more in focus than the guitar.

Like I said, it's just me and just suggestions. I'm not trying to insult you photographic skills. I really do love the light.

Mr Nylon, I almost forgot. If you use your lens with a tripod, turn the VR function off as it can cause possibly focusing issues in some situations abd be sure to focus manually.
