I have seen some beautiful photos of gear here on the Forum (I can't remember who the photogs were). My photo skills are limited but I have got to believe that there are some tricks that even a rookie like me can do to show some decent results.

Little help???

Focus, depth-of-field, adequate lighting.

The lighting is bad enough on photos of guitars. I have more trouble trying to keep reflections of objects from showing up on the bass in my case.

Indirect "bounce" lighting from multiple vantage points can help in that regard.

(that's still a pretty nice pic though)

Mr. Nylon, your shot's not bad at all. You can control your light with black and white pieces of foam core and bounce light. I use large soft boxes to control reflections. Reflections are important to give the guitar form and shape. You're getting really close. The mood in your shot is really nice. You can get Foam Core or Gator Board at an art supply store and it's really cheap. Try some natural light shot and get the Foam Core pretty close to reflect some light back on the guitar and you'll see what I mean. Feel free to PM me with questions if you like.

Aw shucks, thanks guys.

That's my 72 Strat and my 76 Twin that I sold a little while back.

Mr Nylon, what kind of camera are you using? If you can use an external flash you could try bouncing the light off a whit ceiling or even a wall. Use a tripod too or set your camera on a sturdy surface and use the self timer if it has one.

63Supro -- your pic is soooo elegant. It does make you just want to reach out, pick up the guitar and play it.

Mr. Nylon -- I have been admiring your bass for some time. The first pic in this thread made me drool. :D
