By the way, OP, this is not sexist at all, but have you considered mustang, which has 24" scale (1.5 inches shorter than standard strat) and is therefore easier to play for small hands, but still rocks and was Kurt Cobain's favorite guitar. It also has a bright single coil sound and would be great for country IMO even though I don't see any country players with it. You could be the first. The mustang is noticeably small and easy to play. I love mine.

i personaly dont like the body shape of the mustang all that much, i don't know why, it just doesn't appeal to me, and i do have pretty big hands and fingers for a chick and my age....but i think i'll try one out before i make my final desion( i cant spell worth a crap today...) but thank you for the advice :)

no prob. of course you will also need a Fender Mustang amp to go with your new electric guitar. http://www.musiciansfriend.com. $99 and free shipping and no tax unless you live in California, great customer service (no, I don't work for them). I should stop giving away my secret but if you call them and just ask they'll give you a discount (in other words, the amazing Mustang I amp, which cranks plenty loud for practice, is $85, no tax, free shipping, no joke)[/quote]

okay, now you have me confused....use the Fender Mustang amp if I get a Mustang or like just in general weather I get a Strat or a Tele, whatever I decide to go with? :?:

For what it's worth, as a first guitar, I'd choose the Telecaster, Unless you are going to deck the trem, on the Strat, it may take some time to learn how to set it up to float, and that is the way it is designed to be. Or just go for the Strat and start learning now. I just think a fixed bridge will give you more playing time. you won't have to fight the trem every time you change strings.

Well, If I were in your shoes (referring to tht original topic) the only points I'd concern myself with would be Tremolo (y/n), Pick Ups (2 or 3), and Control Placement.

Seeing as you're coming from an Acoustic my first instinct is to say " Go with the Tele". It has a hard tail so palm anchoring on the bridge won't be an issue. It only has two pick ups (three pick up configurations), less to mess with on the fly. It's controls are out of the way of the "Big Strum" that usually comes with an acoustic player.

However, you know what kind of person you are. If you don't mind reinventing your swing a little, and watching that tremolo bridge, you might like the added versatility of the Strat.

Personally I think the Stratocaster is the most comfortable guitar ever made, if they made a Set Neck mahogany version I wouldn't need to use any other guitar.

about the amp:
okay, thanks, i'll look into that...ive been plugging my little sisters amp (my accoustic also gos electric) and it is not the right kind of amp for my guitar in the first place, but i don't like it anyways, luckily i live out of town, the only person i have to worry about disterbing is my dad...tee hee...

and thanks to everybody else too :)

Ms Wells if I may chime in... going from acoustic to electric for the first time is like going from a bicycle to a motorcycle. They are similar and very different at the same time. I played an acoustic for 20+ years before I took the plunge and decided to go electric. I had tried playing electric many times before, but I was never comfortable with it; mainly because I was trying to play it like an acoustic. It took about two years for me to become proficient on the electric because I had to relearn alot of things that were automatic for me on the acoustic. Since you are much younger and haven't developed as many bad habits as I did it would be a good time for you to go ahead and jump on it. Since you now have your basic chord shapes and if you are playing barre chords on your acoustic you have strengthened the muscles of your hand to the point that a well setup electric will seem too easy to play.

Choosing between the Stratocaster and the Telecaster is a different problem. The necks are essentially the same but the body, bridge, pickup, and sound differ noticeably. The Telecaster would probably be easier to play from a beginners standpoint, but the Stratocaster is much more versatile for different types of music genres. Whatever you and your Dad decide to do make an intelligent deliberate decision and stick with it. If you stay on the forums and happen to run across Texasguitarslinger she would be a good person to get to know. She is 4 or 5 years older than you but she started out the same way you are I'm sure. Best of luck to you and welcome. :)

I really don't think it makes a big difference which one you choose. Your going to wish you had gone the other way. Personally I think you'll be happier with the STRAT. The shape itself makes it a more comfortable guitar to hold and play. You will fall in love with both of them for different reasons. They are each wonderful in there own way. 8) :)
----Danny,

Yeah Tele's have the twangy Bridge pup wich im addicted to and the Strat has its contoured body

I went through this with my son and daughter about 2 years ago and this is what we wound up with today. A Squier Standard Strat, an Epiphone Les Paul Studio Custom Shop, and 2 MIM Standard Teles. Don't forget Amps are important also. We have aquired a Champ 600, a Blackstar HT5 combo, a 15 watt Marshall Haze 1/2 stack and 2 Pro Jr.s. Out of all that no one in my family is willing to give up anything accept the Marshall. We hated it.

Oh so for her it's "if you can afford it" but for me it's "don't waste your parents money." I find this extremely funny. 8)

Also, I would go with the Tele too. You said you like southern rock I believe, and I associate Tele's with that style. For me it's like this:
Telecaster: Southern Rock/Country/Country Rock
Stratocaster: Blues/Rock/'50s Rock
Les Paul: 70's Classic Rock/Metal

Oh and when you do pick up a new guitar post pictures! :D
BTW the only 13 year old girl that plays guitar I know, has a Tele so maybe it's a girl thing

honestly, it was my dad's idea to go with a fender, i was lookin at an Ibanez Art 320, never actualy seen it, just by kinda lookin' around on the computer. i am honestly glad he suggested it. i was looking at the Ibanez for looks, and nothing else, i don't know much about the mechanics of an electric, and i don't know exactaly what the Ibanez had.

and yes the southern rock part is right , Lynyrd Skynyrd is my idol.

and i will post pics when i get it, it may be a while, kinda gotta wait for everything to kindof cool down. School starting with a single parent gets to be hectic. and gotta find a byer for my cow... thanks y'all :)
