My question as well--if you're in a Pantera tribute band--well go with the Dean.
If you're in a Buddy Holly tribute band--go with the Strat.

Etc, etc.

If you're not in a tribute band--what sounds better to you.

Both Strats & dimebag guitars come in cheap and expensive versions as well--so there's even more to this than the surface--a higher grade dimebag is better than a lowend Strat--probably--and vice versa--probably.

I'm sure there are those who would argue that either way.

well, yes, considering you should think things through before posting topics... this is a fender forum, you post which is better, a fender or dean, and then you just want us to pick based on no musical preference whatsoever... we at least need a basis to make comparison or this does absolutely no good

I love the old Dean guitars. I happen to have a couple. Of course, mine are about 30 years old. I've not had a chance to play a newer one, but they look like decent guitars across the entire range of price points.

They are sure proud of some models (like the USA made ones, including the so-called Lost 100).

They were good heavy metal guitars then, they are probably good heavy metal guitars now.

A Fender strat has wider application, IMO. But the Deans have their place, for sure. I almost typed that I love my old Deans again.
