Why not just buy a single string to replace the one you broke? A lot of places sell them seperately.

I think I would resent having to pay more for the extra string in a set because of some other rump-swab's carelessness.

I don't know about where you live but my local music store sells single strings in any gauge that you want. If you continually break the same string you might consider buying more that a few extras of that gauge. Just a thought.

I always keep extra E and B strings in every one of my cases for just that reason. If you are breaking the same string all the time, you might check the saddle too.

FWIW

Treat the causes and the symptoms go away. Ensure that you don't break them or cut them too short during the changing process.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

When I set my last pick down it's usually in a pile of other picks I used last when I set them down as the last pick but when I set it down too early that makes me mad too because I shouldn't have set it down too early because it wasn't time for it to be the last pick....

One of the string makers years ago used to include extra B and E strings with each set at no extra charge-I believe it was Hagstrom when they were making strings.

S.I.T. strings (stay in tune) come with and extra E and B string in each pack. I rarely break a string but if I do it's usually one on those. I'm using nothing but Fender 150's now but still have a bag full of extras.

Years ago Ernie Ball used to include an extra high 'E' string with every .009 set.

Yes, be sure to check the appropriate saddle if the same string is always breaking. A thin film of light oil on those saddles when you change strings don't hurt, either.

I once found a pick in my refrigerator! Still trying to figure that one out.
